This role organizes lawful, consistent, and culturally grounded enforcement and safety processes, supporting collaboration between community leadership, safety personnel, RCMP, justice partners, and relevant departments.

The Coordinator does not replace police or peace officer functions; instead, they ensure clear procedures, documentation, partner alignment, and follow-through for community safety actions such as notices, trespass bans, by-law development support, targeted enforcement coordination (where authorized), and safety-focused community supports.

Key responsibilities

1) Enforcement and community safety coordination

2) By-law and policy support

3) Partner alignment: justice, courts, probation/parole

4) Safety operations support and prevention-through-safety

5) Documentation, tracking, and reporting

6) Community engagement and cultural safety

Qualifications

  • Diploma/degree in justice, public administration, social services, community safety, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 2–5 years experience in community safety, justice coordination, by-law/policy implementation, or enforcement-adjacent administration.
  • Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality, information-sharing boundaries, and documentation standards.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities and commitment to cultural safety and trauma-informed practice.

Skills and competencies

  • Strong coordination skills with multiple agencies (leadership, RCMP, courts, probation/parole, housing, health).
  • Excellent documentation, records management, and policy/procedure writing ability.
  • Calm, professional judgment under pressure; able to manage sensitive situations.
  • Clear communicator with strong boundaries and ethics.
  • Understanding of restorative approaches and harm reduction principles (as they intersect with safety).

Working conditions

  • Mix of office-based coordination and community/partner meetings.
  • Some evening/weekend availability for urgent safety coordination or meetings.
  • Must meet organizational requirements for screening (e.g., criminal record/vulnerable sector checks as per policy).
  • Driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required.

Core deliverables (first 6–12 months)

  • Standard operating procedures for notices/bans and documentation.
  • Implementation-ready support for the Drug By-Law (materials, training plan, rollout steps).
  • Regular reporting that shows consistent follow-through and safer, clearer community processes.
