Journeyman Plumber – New Construction

Position Overview

Cohesive Mechanical Contracting Ltd. is seeking an experienced and dependable Journeyman Plumber to join our New Construction Plumbing Division.

This position is primarily focused on multi-family residential construction, including apartment buildings, townhomes, mixed-use developments, and other large-scale construction projects throughout British Columbia.

The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of new construction plumbing systems, be capable of working efficiently from construction drawings and specifications, and take pride in completing high-quality installations that meet company standards, project requirements, and applicable plumbing codes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install complete plumbing systems on multi-family and commercial new construction projects.
  • Perform underground, rough-in, finishing, and commissioning-related plumbing work.
  • Install domestic water, sanitary, storm, venting, and related mechanical piping systems.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, mechanical plans, details, and schedules.
  • Lay out plumbing systems accurately based on approved drawings and site conditions.
  • Install plumbing fixtures, equipment, valves, piping, supports, and associated components.
  • Coordinate installations with HVAC, electrical, sprinkler, structural, and other trades.
  • Identify potential conflicts or deficiencies before they impact construction progress.
  • Complete installations in accordance with the BC Plumbing Code, project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and company standards.
  • Perform pressure testing, flushing, inspections, and system verification as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Properly use and maintain company tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Follow company safety procedures and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with foremen, site supervisors, project managers, apprentices, and other trades.
  • Assist with training and mentoring plumbing apprentices when required.
  • Maintain productivity while ensuring workmanship meets Cohesive Mechanical's quality standards.
  • Report material shortages, drawing conflicts, site issues, and potential delays to the project foreman promptly.
  • Complete required daily documentation and reporting.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Valid Journeyman Plumber certification or Red Seal certification.
  • Experience working in new construction plumbing.
  • Strong understanding of multi-family plumbing systems and installation practices.
  • Ability to read and work from construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of applicable plumbing codes and installation standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a construction team.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to safely operate standard plumbing tools and equipment.
  • Reliable transportation to project sites.
  • Strong attendance, punctuality, and dependability.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience on large multi-family apartment or townhouse projects.
  • Experience with parkades, mechanical rooms, domestic water distribution, sanitary and storm drainage systems.
  • Experience coordinating installations with other mechanical and construction trades.
  • Experience mentoring apprentices.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Current construction safety certifications.

Performance Expectations

Journeyman Plumbers at Cohesive Mechanical are expected to demonstrate:

Accountability – Take responsibility for assigned work, tools, materials, and project responsibilities.

Planning – Review drawings and upcoming work in advance to identify potential issues before installation.

Communication – Clearly communicate site conditions, material requirements, conflicts, and concerns to project leadership.

Teamwork – Work professionally with apprentices, foremen, project management, general contractors, and other trades.

Safety – Follow all company and site safety policies and contribute to a safe working environment.

Physical Requirements

This position involves active construction work and may require:

  • Lifting and carrying plumbing materials and equipment.
  • Working from ladders and elevated work platforms.
  • Working in parkades, mechanical rooms, suites, service spaces, and active construction areas.
  • Standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and performing physical work throughout the shift.
  • Working indoors and outdoors in varying construction conditions.
