What You’ll Do
At Island Health, MLTs work closely with interdisciplinary teams in fast-paced healthcare environments where their expertise, accuracy, and collaboration directly support real-time clinical decisions every day. Your responsibilities and duties are:
- Perform laboratory testing and analysis in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
- Collect, prepare, process, and transport laboratory specimens.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation using computerized systems.
- Perform instrument calibration, maintenance, and reagent preparation.
- Monitor and manage laboratory inventory, supplies, and blood products.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Review quality control results and assist with troubleshooting to ensure accurate testing outcomes.
What You Will Need to Apply
- Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
- Graduation from a recognized diploma program in Medical Laboratory Technology.
- Completion of core laboratory related courses or one year of recent, related experience within the last six years in the core laboratory section of the laboratory (or equivalent).
- Successful completion of recognized competency assessment exam and registration in the relevant field(s) of practice in accordance with the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) pathways.
