Full job description

Reports to: Field Operations Manager

Department: Field Operations

Location: Newmarket, Ontario (onsite), plus extensive domestic and international field assignments

Employment type: Full-time, permanent

About the role

This is a hands-on technical job with significant domestic and international travel for field deployments. You will spend stretches of six to eight weeks at survey sites in remote parts of the world, preparing our airborne geophysical equipment for flight, ensuring data is properly captured, and transmitting that data for review by our geophysics team. Between field assignments, you would be back at our Newmarket shop servicing and preparing equipment for the next job.

The role suits someone who likes solving practical problems with their hands, is comfortable in rough conditions, is tech savvy with computers, and can figure things out when a piece of equipment requires troubleshooting. You do not need a geophysics background. If you have solid electronics and computer skills and you are up for the travel, we will teach you the rest.

Who we are

Expert Geophysics runs airborne geophysical surveys for mineral exploration companies worldwide. Our MobileMT electromagnetic system, together with our magnetic and gamma-ray spectrometry surveys, images the subsurface to well over a kilometer deep, which helps exploration companies decide where to drill and takes a lot of the guesswork out of exploration.

What you would do

  • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot our airborne survey equipment before and during each job.
  • Operate the equipment in flight, running data collection during helicopter and drone surveys.
  • Diagnose and fix problems on site.
  • Service and repair equipment back in our Newmarket, Ontario warehouse between field assignments.

What you need

  • Practical experience operating, maintaining, or troubleshooting electronic equipment.
  • A college diploma in electronics or electrical technology, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Comfort using tools, and the ability to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Sound problem-solving skills and the self-reliance to work things out on your own.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for six to eight weeks at a stretch.
  • Ability to thrive in small team environment.
  • Comfort flying in a helicopter for up to six to eight hours a day.
  • A valid Ontario G-class driver's licence and experience towing a trailer.
  • A valid passport with no travel restrictions.

Nice to have

Not required, but a plus:

  • Experience in airborne geophysics or survey work.

What the schedule looks like

The work runs in rotations: roughly six to eight weeks on a survey, then back home working in our shop. When you are not deployed, you are on a regular 40-hour week at our Newmarket facility.

What we offer

  • A salary of $50,000 to $70,000 a year with potential for extensive overtime (see below).
  • Full training. You do not need prior geophysics experience to start.
  • Travel and accommodation for field assignments, arranged by the company.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $70,000 (plus overtime) per year. We have posted the full range for transparency, and the final figure depends on your skills, education, and relevant experience.

Accommodation is available on request at any stage of the hiring process.

Pay: $50,000.00-$70,000.00 per year

Work Location: In person
