We seek excellent students, faculty, and staff to join us in what has become known as the "Western Experience" - an opportunity to contribute to a better world through the development of new knowledge, new abilities, new connections, and new ways to make a difference.
About Us
The central mission of Western Law is to educate students in the core areas of Canadian law, in analytical skills and in effective legal research, writing and advocacy. We will also provide students with opportunities to apply their legal knowledge and to gain experience in group work, dispute resolution, and leadership skills development.
Responsibilities
The Web Developer plays a key role in advancing the Faculty of Law’s website renewal initiative by designing, building, and maintaining accessible, high-quality web experiences across the Faculty’s digital ecosystem. Focused on the implementation of Western’s web template and content management system, the role provides the technical expertise required to support the large-scale migration, optimization, and ongoing sustainability of the Faculty’s web presence.
Working collaboratively with stakeholders across the Faculty, the role translates web strategy and content goals into effective, user-centred digital solutions that enhance the experience of prospective students and external audiences, while ensuring internal information remains accessible through appropriate structures and aligns with accessibility standards and institutional requirements.
Qualifications
Education:
- Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in Web Design & Development, Computer Science, Interactive Media, Digital Media, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
- 2 years of experience in front end web development, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Experience working with a content management system (e.g., Cascade, WordPress, Drupal)
- Experience supporting or contributing to web migrations or large, decentralized web environments is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge of front-end web development practices, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap)
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (AODA/WCAG) and principles for creating inclusive, compliant digital content
- Understanding of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) principles as applied to navigation, content structure, and usability
- Familiarity with content management systems and web publishing workflows (e.g., Cascade, WordPress)
- Familiarity with web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Hotjar, Siteimprove, etc.) and the use of basic performance data to inform technical improvements
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills related to web performance, compatibility, accessibility, and quality assurance
- Ability to apply UX and accessibility principles to translate requirements into practical, user-centred web solutions
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities in a project-based environment
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and provide practical recommendations
- Demonstrated ability to consult with and build relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Strong documentation and quality-control skills, with attention to detail and adherence to established standards and checklists
- Ability to work independently within established guidelines while appropriately escalating issues that require consultation or approval
- Ability to adapt to new tools, technologies, and processes, and apply learning effectively in a changing technical environment
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders across the Faculty to support shared goals and timelines
- Ability to provide service-oriented technical support that builds trust and supports decentralized site owners
