Full job description

***La version française suit***

When supply chains break, the world notices. When goods keep moving, no one notices us, and that is exactly the point. Since 1989, Trans-Pro has solved transportation problems others could not.

We are looking for an experienced Freight Forwarder to join our international operations team, reporting to the Director, Air and Ocean Freight Forwarding. You will manage air and ocean files independently from the start, from booking through customs through delivery, supported by our pricing, manifest and billing teams and our global network of carriers and agents.

What you will do

  • Manage air and ocean freight files from booking to delivery to file closure
  • Coordinate with international agents, carriers, and customs brokers
  • Prepare and process shipping documentation (bills of lading, manifests, customs declarations)
  • Confirm rates with carriers and negotiate competitive pricing
  • Track shipments and proactively manage delays, disruptions, or documentation issues
  • Handle invoicing, verify subcontractor charges, and close out completed files
  • Communicate daily with clients to provide updates and resolve issues
  • Monitor regulatory changes affecting international shipments (tariffs, customs requirements, trade compliance)

What you need

  • Five or more years managing air and ocean files independently, in both modes
  • Dangerous goods certification, air and ocean
  • CIFFA certification or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of rates, carriers, and steamship lines
  • Proven ability to take charge of a file when problems arise: customs holds, permits, reroutes, missed connections
  • Knowledge of international shipping documentation, customs processes, and trade compliance
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail under tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage several active files at once without dropping the ball
  • Availability to work on-site at our downtown Montreal office five days a week
  • Proficiency in English, spoken and written, is essential.
  • French is an asset

Why English is required: this role involves daily communication with international agents, carriers, and partners located outside Quebec. This requirement is directly related to the duties of the position, and Trans-Pro assessed reasonable means of avoiding it before imposing it.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive group insurance (medical, dental, life, long-term disability)
  • Employer-matched retirement savings plan after 6 months
  • Paid vacation and personal days
  • Monthly phone and parking allowances
  • Professional but relaxed work environment
  • Team events, training, and professional development
  • Opportunities for advancement within a growing company
