Full job description

About Us
Established in 1998, TradeTheNews.com pioneered real-time financial news analysis by introducing the first audio squawks for Equities, Fixed Income, and Commodities. Our NewsStation platform is trusted by thousands of professionals worldwide and serves as a vital resource for some of the largest buy-side and sell-side firms.

About the Position
We are expanding our International Markets Analysis Team and seeking a Real-Time Financial Markets News Desk Editor to join our global newsroom. This is a remote, independent contractor role focused on monitoring markets in real time and quickly publishing short, accurate headlines on price‑moving news across equities, FX, fixed income, commodities, and macro events. This is NOT a long‑form writing, blogging, or content marketing role.

About the Candidate
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with trading or markets and is comfortable working in a live, fast‑paced news environment. You can:

  • Scan multiple sources at once and quickly determine what is market‑relevant.
  • Turn complex information into very short, clear headlines within seconds.
  • Understand how news and data affect different asset classes and trading flows.

Strong market intuition, situational awareness, and calm performance under pressure are more important than long‑form writing or journalism credentials.

Key Skills

  • Solid understanding of global financial markets (equities, FX, futures, rates, commodities etc.).
  • Practical trading / dealing / brokerage / buy‑side or sell‑side exposure strongly preferred.
  • Fast, accurate typist (minimum 60+ WPM).

Position Details

  • Employment Type: Full-time, remote independent contractor, long-term contract.
  • Location: Fully remote; quiet, dedicated workspace with a door for home office required.
  • Shift: US Market Session – 6 AM – 4 PM EST.
  • Compensation: Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years in trading, dealing, research, or similar markets role for senior Analyst level.
  • Cross-asset knowledge and clear understanding of how headlines and data move markets.
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Core Competencies

  • Exceptional focus and ability to perform in a high‑tempo, real‑time environment.
  • Ability to prioritize: distinguish noise from genuinely market‑moving information.
  • Clear, professional communication style (written headlines; audio commentary is a plus).
  • Mature, collegial, energetic, and intellectually curious.
  • Able to work independently while coordinating closely with a global team via chat/voice.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

You will work on a live news desk, continuously monitoring multiple newswires, official sources, and market indicators, and publishing very short headlines and brief updates for active traders. Comprehensive initial training on our tools and style will be provided.

Typical tasks include:

  • Writing concise, real-time headlines on economic data, central bank comments, company news, and macro events.
  • Flagging and prioritizing market‑moving items while filtering out non‑essential noise.
  • Providing brief text updates and occasional audio notes on key developments.
  • Monitoring economic calendars, earnings schedules, and other key risk events across asset classes.

Ready to Join Our News Desk?

To apply, please submit:

  • Your résumé.
  • A brief cover letter describing your trading/markets experience and why you’re suited to real-time news work.
  • (Optional) A writing sample of market‑related news updates.

Pay: From $25.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Paid time off

Experience:
