Full job description

Company description

We are changing the way people vacation in undiscovered communities. We’re re-envisioning hospitality and what it means to impress today’s consumers by embracing modern technology and bringing warmth to every guest interaction.

We have lovingly re-designed, renovated, and furnished an old motel, transforming it into a premium four-season brand named Somewhere Inn Calabogie. We are a destination for urbanites to escape the city, unplug and spend time in nature. We believe that the trends of increased domestic travel and micro-vacations have only been strengthened by the pandemic.

Our purpose extends beyond our guests. We see ourselves as a gateway to exceptional experiences in our community - restaurants, breweries, hiking, skiing and adventures. And to give back, we have taken the 1%-for-the-planet pledge, committing 1% of our revenue to local environmental-based not-for-profits.

We are looking for talented people with a passion for hospitality to be part of our launch.

Job description

About the job:

As a member of the front desk team, you are the face of our brand. You will be interacting with guests all day, every day! Key responsibilities include managing guest communications, bookings, room-service delivery, restocking the lobby shop and coordinating cleanings with housekeeping staff. Your #1 goal is to ensure guests have the best experience possible.

You are:

Approachable, thoughtful, outdoorsy, cool and fun. You love to let your personality shine. You are energized by interacting with guests. Things like compassion and empathy come easily to you. You love a new challenge, view learning as a lifelong exercise and hold yourself to a high standard. You are a team player and don’t mind lending an extra hand to housekeepers and the General Manager on busy days. You are comfortable using iPhones, iPads and apps to interact with guests and keep track of tasks. You are proud of the Ottawa Valley and love to share its magic with guests. And most importantly you have a passion for hospitality.

At a minimum, you have a high school education. Post-secondary training in tourism is great to have. Hands-on experience in hospitality is a bonus.

What you get:

Full-time hours. Evening and weekend work is required.
Staff discounts
Frequent staff socials
Learning program: $500 annually for hospitality-related training and courses
An inclusive workplace that values diverse perspectives and fosters community

What you can expect from the interview process:

Part 1: Phone Interview. We will ask you situational questions to understand how you would approach various scenarios. For example: what would you do if 3 guests all asked you for something at once?

Part 2: In-person interview. We will ask you more situational questions. Plus, we will ask you to do some homework and come prepared to talk about it. Your assignment:

Three different groups are staying at Somewhere Inn.

  • A couple on their baby-moon;
  • A group of four friends; and
  • A bachelor party of 8 people.

They are all looking for recommendations on where to go and what to do while staying with us. Your task is to plan separate what-to-do itineraries from sunrise to sunset for each of the three groups.
