Full job description

Overview

We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Event Security Guard to assist in Back of House (BOH) and Loading Dock (L/D) operations at live events. This is a high-visibility, high-responsibility role dealing with guests, artists/tours, employees & management.

What You'll Be Doing

Back of House (BOH)

  • Check credentials, wristbands, laminates, and staff/vendor IDs for anyone entering backstage or restricted corridors
  • Prevent unauthorized entry to stage, dressing rooms, control rooms, and VIP or production areas
  • Patrol BOH corridors, dressing rooms, and storage areas to deter theft, vandalism, and tampering with equipment
  • Watch for suspicious behavior (lurkers, people without visible credentials, unattended bags or cases) and report immediately
  • Maintain clear egress routes; ensure doors and stairwells are not blocked by cases, cables, or catering
  • Coordinate with stage management, production, and tour security on timing for moves, VIP movement, and lockdown periods
  • Prevent friends, fans, or excess staff from congregating in BOH corridors and stage wings; keep areas "operational only"
  • Enforce BOH rules such as no filming, no photos, no alcohol or drugs, PPE in certain areas, and noise/phone restrictions near performance-sensitive zones
  • Respond to medical issues or fire alarms in BOH, guide staff and talent to designated exits, and communicate with event command
  • Preserve scenes of incidents (theft, assault, injury), gather basic details, and complete incident reports and logs
  • Keep a BOH activity log: unusual behavior, access denials, policy breaches, blocked exits, and equipment left unsecured
  • Report broken locks, damaged doors, camera blind spots, or lighting issues that impact BOH security

Loading Dock (L/D)

  • Verify all visitors against the load-in/out schedule or manifest before granting entry
  • Monitor trucks while stagehands and crew are loading/unloading to deter theft or tampering
  • Conduct bag searches and metal detector screening for crew, staff, and vendors entering through the dock, as required
  • Watch for unauthorized individuals approaching the load, taking photos of equipment, or attempting to remove cases without clear authorization
  • Control doors and gates between dock and BOH corridors; ensure only badged or credentialed staff and crew move equipment inside
  • Prevent fans, media, rideshare drivers, or general public from following trucks or crew into BOH via the dock
  • Help maintain safe vehicle and pedestrian flow: no standing in blind spots, no unauthorized vehicles idling near bays, and clear fire lanes
  • Watch for unsafe practices (riders on forklifts, unsecured loads, blocked exits) and escalate to dock supervisor or H&S contact
  • Continuously observe the dock perimeter for loiterers, tailgating through gates, or attempts to climb fences or piggyback on deliveries
  • Actively monitor dock cameras (where available) and report blind spots or camera failures
  • Respond to accidents at the dock (falls, injuries) by calling EMS, applying basic first aid within your training, and securing the area
  • Maintain a detailed dock log: vehicles, incidents, access denials, safety issues, and any law-enforcement or emergency services interactions

What We're Looking For

  • Dependable and reliable – shows up on time, every time
  • Good size / physical presence
  • Firm when needed, but able to deliver good customer service to staff, crew, and guests
  • Able to communicate clearly over radio
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency in carrying out duties and procedures
  • Good command of the English language, spoken and written

  • Valid Ontario Security Guard Licence
  • Smart Serve certification
  • First Aid/CPR certificate

Benefits:

  • Flexible schedule
