Technical Director

About Original Foods

Original Foods is a growing Canadian food manufacturer producing confectionery, syrups, RTD coffee beverages, fruit fillings, jams, sauces, baked and sugar cones, baking ingredients, and broth products for leading foodservice, retail, and industrial customers across North America.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Technical Director to lead our Product Development, Regulatory Affairs, and Quality Assurance functions.

The Role

The Technical Director is the senior technical leader of the organization. This role provides leadership to the R&D and QA teams while remaining actively involved in product development, commercialization, customer support, and technical problem-solving.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working with customers, auditors, suppliers, and internal teams, while managing multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Product Development, Regulatory Affairs, and Quality Assurance activities.
  • Manage and develop a team of Product Developers and Quality professionals at Managers and Senior levels.
  • Drive new product development projects from concept through commercialization.
  • Serve as the most senior technical contact for customers, auditors, and certification bodies when required.
  • Lead plant trials, scale-ups, and commercialization activities.
  • Provide technical leadership on product quality, food safety, regulatory compliance, and process improvements.
  • Review BOMs, formulations, specifications, labels, and packaging to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Support customer presentations, technical meetings, and audits.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, continuous improvement, and business growth.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities while ensuring deadlines are achieved.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in food manufacturing.
  • Proven experience leading new product development and commercialization projects.
  • Strong knowledge of CFIA, FDA, HACCP, SQF, and food labeling requirements.
  • Experience managing and developing technical teams.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Hands-on, practical, and comfortable working both in the plant and with customers.

Pay: $110,000.00-$150,000.00 per year
