POSITION OVERVIEW

The Plant Manager oversees all aspects of production and distribution within the facility, maximizing operational and quality performance as measured by delivering positive results in production performance, product quality, delivery times, compliance to specifications, customer satisfaction, operational flexibility, and continuous improvement. This role is highly hands-on, balancing production leadership with administrative oversight, including health and safety, basic HR support, and operational coordination.

This position leads all staff members in a manner that creates engagement and productivity within the team and the facility. As a member of management, you will participate in corporate projects, strategic and operational committees, and other organizational key initiatives.

SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Post-secondary education in manufacturing engineering or business-related field.

· 3 to 5 years experience in a managerial role.

· 5 to 10 years progressive production experience; egg production facility preferred.

· Experience working under and maintaining a HACCP/SQF system.

· Experience in a culturally diverse work environment.

· Highly organized with excellent time management and priority setting skills.

· Able to make concise and effective decisions.

· Strong people orientation with an understanding of business needs and company goals.

· Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and various internet applications.

· Results oriented mindset with a disposition towards continuous improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Oversee daily production activities, including staffing, scheduling, machine productivity, inventory, and cost of production (COP), to ensure output, quality, and efficiency targets are met.

· Identify and address issues impacting productivity, efficiency, or cost, and implement corrective actions to improve plant performance.

· Ensure preventative maintenance programs are followed and equipment is maintained in proper working order.

· Maintain high standards of plant cleanliness and sanitation, challenging staff to meet or exceed established expectations.

· Conduct weekly plant meetings to review prior performance, communicate priorities, and assign action items.

· Lead, schedule, coach, and develop plant employees, including training, performance evaluations, attendance management, and corrective action, in collaboration with Human Resources.

· Support site‑level HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, training coordination, employee documentation, and performance management.

· Act as the first point of contact for employee relations and safety concerns, ensuring matters are addressed in a timely and confidential manner in collaboration with the HR Leader.

· Lead site health and safety, ensuring compliance with company policies and Alberta OHS requirements through proactive safety coaching, daily plant checks, and timely reporting and investigation of incidents, near misses, and hazards.

· Ensure employees comply with HACCP, SQF, quality, health & safety, and biosecurity policies and procedures, and that all required documentation is completed and reviewed.

· Inform the Director of Food Safety of any conditions that could impact food safety or regulatory compliance.

· Monitor production, maintenance, and safety documentation to ensure accuracy, completion, and use of information to improve efficiencies.

· Respond to and resolve producer concerns related to clean supplies or plant operations, as applicable.

· Support basic administrative and accounting processes, including timekeeping and payroll inputs, invoice tracking and approval, expense documentation, and office ordering.

· Lead within company policies, procedures, and organizational structure, establishing short‑ and long‑term goals aligned with company objectives and identifying risks or trends requiring corrective action.

· Build and maintain positive working relationships with all levels of staff, living by the company’s mission, vision, and values.

Leadership responsibilities for Health, Safety and Environment include:

· Demonstrate leadership in health, safety and environment compliance with both legislative and corporate requirements.

· Hold employees accountable for health, safety and environmental compliance as part of the annual performance review process.

· Ensure that the requirements of the health, safety and environment management system are implemented and maintained.

· Carry out hazard assessments, inspections, and audits as required by legislative framework and/or corporate requirements.

· Address any hazards reported by employees and implement appropriate corrective measures for unsafe conditions and unsafe acts in a timely manner.

· Ensure that training is provided to all departmental employees as per established training matrix and established health & safety programs.

· Ensure that appropriate equipment, materials and protective devices are provided, being used and maintained in safe condition.

· Provide information, instruction and supervision to employees.

· Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of employees.

SWP (Safe Work Procedures)

1. If applicable, wear and inspect required PPE and replace if necessary.

2. Inspect equipment for functionality and operational safety mechanisms.

3. Practice proper lifting techniques.

4. Take frequent breaks in accordance with company policy/procedures.

5. Workers must not be impaired by alcohol, drugs, or other causes.

6. Workers must be aware of first aid locations.

7. Workers must be aware of fire extinguisher locations and operating procedures.

8. Workers must be aware of emergency response procedures and reporting.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
