Bow Valley Hospitality Ltd. o/a Subway is looking for an Assistant General Manager to support the day-to-day operations of our Subway locations in Lethbridge, AB. This position is a permanent full-time position that involves regular travel between stores, working evenings and weekends, being on call, supporting Store Managers, and ensuring company standards are followed.

The successful candidate must be comfortable holding managers accountable, addressing operational problems, and working in restaurants when needed.

Main Responsibilities

• Support and monitor Store Managers to ensure company, Subway, food safety, and government standards are followed.
• Visit stores regularly to complete training, inspections, and follow-up on outstanding issues.
• Conduct scheduled and unscheduled store visits and address cleanliness, maintenance, and operational concerns.
• Review temperature logs and ensure coolers, freezers, and sandwich units are operating properly.
• Coordinate repair and maintenance requests with Store Managers and the office.
• Ensure promotions, pricing changes, and marketing materials are properly implemented.
• Monitor Google reviews and third-party delivery scores and follow up on problems.
• Check store appearance, inventory levels, food quality, and overall restaurant standards.
• Deal with customer complaints that cannot be resolved at the store level.
• Review operational reports with the GM and follow up on areas requiring improvement.
• Attend office meetings and complete assigned follow-up.
• Work a minimum of two evening shifts and two weekend shifts each month.
• Assist with hiring, interviews, onboarding, and training.
• Review employee performance and assist with progressive discipline and terminations when required.
• Monitor scheduling, payroll, attendance, and compliance with company policies and employment legislation.
• Provide Store Managers with ongoing coaching and support.
• Monitor cash handling and investigate cash discrepancies.
• Ensure inventory is properly counted, controlled, and reported.
• Monitor food costs and address stores that are outside of target ranges.
• Ensure catering and delivery orders are properly reconciled and documented.
• Assist with workplace injuries, WCB claims, and modified duties.
• Ensure required hazard assessments are completed and kept current.
• Ensure work-alone safety procedures and panic pendant testing are completed as required.

What We Are Looking For

• Previous restaurant management experience of 3+ years.
• Experience supervising or managing employees in food service of at minimum of 1-2 years
• Post-Secondary School Graduate.
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
• Ability to deal with employee performance and workplace issues.
• Ability to travel between multiple restaurant locations.
• Comfortable working evenings and weekends and being on call
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
• Must be able to communicate verbally and written in English
• Valid class 5 driver's license and reliable transportation.

Important Information

This position is not an office-only position. Regular travel between restaurants, store visits, evening shifts, weekend shifts, and hands-on restaurant work are required.

The Assistant General Manager is expected to hold Store Managers accountable for their responsibilities while also stepping in to help when stores are short-staffed or operational issues arise.
