Position Overview

The Lead Handyman is responsible for performing a wide variety of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure our stores remain safe, clean, and in excellent working condition. This is a hands-on position that requires someone who enjoys troubleshooting problems, completing repairs, and taking pride in keeping facilities operating efficiently.

The Lead Handyman will work alongside the company's in-house Handyman, helping prioritize daily work, assisting with more complex repairs, and ensuring maintenance requests are completed in a timely manner. The role also involves communicating with outside service providers when specialized repairs are required.

The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, self-motivated, and willing to roll up their sleeves every day. This is not an office position—the majority of the work is performed in the stores.

Key ResponsibilitiesMaintenance & Repairs

  • Perform general building maintenance and repairs at all three store locations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair doors, shelving, plumbing fixtures, lighting, flooring, walls, ceilings, and other building components.
  • Perform minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, drywall, and general repair work.
  • Assist with equipment repairs and basic troubleshooting of refrigeration and HVAC systems.
  • Assemble, install, and move fixtures, shelving, displays, and equipment.
  • Complete preventive maintenance to reduce equipment downtime.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and emergency repairs in a timely manner.
  • Maintain an organized workshop, tools, and maintenance supplies.

Daily Support

  • Work closely with the in-house Handyman to complete daily maintenance tasks.
  • Help prioritize work based on operational needs.
  • Provide guidance and assistance on larger or more complex repairs.
  • Communicate maintenance concerns to management.

Vendors & Contractors

  • Meet contractors on-site when required.
  • Coordinate service visits for repairs beyond the scope of the maintenance team.
  • Follow up to ensure repairs have been completed satisfactorily.

Store Support

  • Travel regularly between all three store locations.
  • Assist with store renovations, seasonal projects, and equipment installations.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and professional environment for customers and employees.

Qualifications & SkillsExperience

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in building maintenance, handyman services, or a similar hands-on role.
  • Experience working in retail, grocery, or commercial facilities is considered an asset.

Technical Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, and general building maintenance.
  • Basic understanding of refrigeration and HVAC systems is preferred.
  • Ability to safely use power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment.

Skills

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use email, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Office, and to complete basic maintenance records and work orders.
  • Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and a positive attitude.

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel between all three store locations.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required.
  • Comfortable working on ladders and performing physically demanding work.
  • Willingness to occasionally work evenings or weekends for emergency repairs or special projects.
  • This is a working Lead Handyman position. The successful candidate is expected to spend the majority of their time performing hands-on maintenance and repairs while helping coordinate the daily activities of the in-house Handyman.
  • Knowledge of the Polish language is considered an asset.

We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

We offer a competitive salary, Health and Dental Benefits, a dynamic work environment, and opportunities for growth.

Individuals should possess prior experience in a similar position and be able to competently operate material handling equipment.
