Schedule: Weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed

Position Summary

Dry Aged Inc. is seeking a motivated, customer-focused Meat Department Associate / Deli Specialist to join our team. This position is ideal for candidates with experience in butcher shops, grocery meat departments, deli counters, cafés, food service, or specialty food retail environments.

The successful candidate will support daily store operations including premium meat preparation, customer service, merchandising, cashier responsibilities, and beverage preparation. Previous meat-cutting experience is an asset, but candidates with strong food handling, retail, hospitality, or customer service backgrounds who are eager to learn are encouraged to apply.

ResponsibilitiesMeat Department & Food Preparation

  • Prepare, trim, portion, package, label, and merchandise fresh meat products including beef, pork, poultry, seafood, and lamb.
  • Assist with specialty meat preparation including sausages, burgers, marinades, and other value-added products.
  • Perform meat cutting and preparation tasks based on experience level and training provided.
  • Maintain product quality, freshness, and presentation while meeting Dry Aged Inc. quality standards.
  • Monitor inventory, product rotation, and freshness to minimize spoilage.
  • Follow proper food safety, sanitation, temperature control, and handling procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe food preparation environment.
  • Safely operate knives, food preparation equipment, and department tools.

Customer Service & Retail Operations

  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with product selection, recommendations, cooking methods, recipes, and preparation suggestions.
  • Build customer relationships through knowledgeable and friendly service.
  • Answer customer questions and provide information about premium meats and specialty products.
  • Support store merchandising by stocking, rotating, displaying, and maintaining attractive product presentation.
  • Assist with receiving deliveries, inventory organization, and maintaining appropriate product levels.
  • Perform opening and closing duties as assigned.

Cashier & Front Counter Responsibilities

  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately and efficiently.
  • Process customer transactions including cash, debit, credit, and other payment methods.
  • Handle cash responsibly and maintain accuracy when completing transactions.
  • Provide friendly and professional service at checkout.
  • Assist customers with orders, special requests, and product inquiries.
  • Maintain a clean and organized checkout and customer service area.
  • Support front-of-house operations during busy periods.

Beverage & Café Support (Asset)

  • Prepare coffee, espresso-based beverages, and other specialty drinks as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of beverage preparation procedures and customer preferences.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of beverage equipment and service areas.
  • Provide excellent customer service while preparing beverages and assisting guests.
  • Previous barista or café experience is considered an asset.

Team & Operations Support

  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure efficient daily operations.
  • Assist with training and supporting new employees as required.
  • Maintain and properly use equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Report safety concerns, equipment issues, product concerns, or operational issues promptly.
  • Follow all company policies, health regulations, weights and measures requirements, and safe work practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in one or more of the following environments:
  • Butcher shop
  • Grocery meat department
  • Deli department
  • Specialty food retail
  • Food production
  • Commercial kitchen
  • Restaurant or café environment
  • Previous experience with meat preparation, food handling, or fresh food merchandising is an asset.
  • Previous cashier, POS, or retail checkout experience preferred.
  • Previous barista, coffee preparation, or café experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Comfortable working directly with customers and providing product recommendations.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation practices, and safe food handling procedures.
  • Comfortable using knives and food preparation equipment safely.
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities including food preparation, customer service, cashier duties, and store support.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong organization, reliability, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for quality food, premium products, and exceptional customer experiences.
  • Willingness to learn Dry Aged Inc. products, preparation methods, and service standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 1+ year of experience in retail grocery, deli, butcher shop, food service, café, hospitality, or food production preferred.
  • Customer service experience required.
  • Cash handling and POS experience preferred.
  • Food Handler Certification is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with meat cutting tools, fresh food preparation, or specialty food products is an asset.
  • Barista or coffee preparation experience is an asset.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within a premium food retail environment.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during an 8–9 hour shift.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand movements including grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to bend, twist, squat, reach, and lift as required.
  • Comfortable working in a cold and wet environment.
  • Exposure to refrigerated and freezer temperatures:
  • Below 32°F (freezing environments)
  • 32–40°F (refrigerated environments)
  • Warmer retail and customer service areas
  • Ability to safely handle knives, cutting tools, food preparation equipment, and cleaning products.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays as required.
