Located in Mississauga, Ontario, we are a leading developer and manufacturer of quality private label food products with distribution across Canada, the USA, and South America.

The Associate Innovation & Product Development Chef will work in collaboration with the Research & Development team to create and deliver new products from ideation to launch as an integral part of the innovation team. The applicant should be creative, results driven, be interested in the development of consumer packaged goods, and most importantly have a passion for food! The position will report to the research and innovation chef and is a cross-functional role requiring daily support to the R&D team as well as interaction with other departments (Sales, Production, Quality Assurance, Commercialization, Procurement), and external customers.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Assist the R&D team with the development and launch of new products, ensuring high quality application testing and presentations

  • Participate in product cuttings and tasting to ensure that all products from R&D meet Celtrade standards for culinary excellence
  • Prepare product samples in application for testing and tasting purposes
  • Prepare gold standard recipes & samples to direct development
  • Provide direction to the R&D process from a culinary and organoleptic standpoint
  • Coach, train, mentor, and develop PD team in areas of culinology
  • Maintain excellent documentation of recipe development & application testing to accompany development notes

Maintain the R&D Kitchen from a culinary standpoint

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of lab work area and equipment
  • Maintain inventory of pantry, freezer items, lab snacks, coffee and tea making grocery runs as needed
  • Organize and procure ingredients needed for application testing and development work
  • Organize and procure ingredients needed for application testing and development work
  • Ensure that equipment for internal and external presentations is present, organized, and in good working order

Support the innovation chef to plan and execute customer focused presentations and meals to showcase new product innovation and development

  • Assist with concept and application development for customer innovation presentations
  • Travel to external customer meetings as required, and support in terms of food preparation and organization
  • Prepare food for visiting customers when on-site and participate in the planning of customer dinners and food tours
  • Assist R&D team and innovation chef in preparation and execution of trade shows and industry events (assisting with planning & preparation of samples & supplies)

Support the R&D Team with product development as needed

o Scaling and preparing bench-top prototypes to assist R&D team for commercialization and new product development projects, updating required documentation

o Conducting product analysis (pH, Bostwick, Brix etc.)

o Assisting in packing samples for shipment to customers

Participate in innovation activities like Blue-sky outings, restaurant visits, and internal innovation presentations with the Product Development Team

Other duties as assigned to support the Innovation and R&D Team

Important Considerations:

  • Office space is located in a facility containing all major food allergens
  • Travel may be required
  • Position is fully in-office
  • Successful candidate should not have any dietary restrictions
  • Successful candidate will be on their feet for a large portion of the day, and should be able to comfortably lift up to 20lbs
