We are seeking a proactive and vigilant Traffic Control Person to ensure the safety and smooth flow of construction and paving projects. In this role, you will be responsible for directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic around active work zones, maintaining safety protocols, and supporting construction crews with essential traffic management tasks. Your energetic presence will help create a secure environment for workers, motorists, and pedestrians alike, contributing to the successful completion of projects on time and within safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate traffic control devices such as cones, signs, flagging paddles, and barricades to guide vehicles and pedestrians safely through work zones
• Direct traffic flow according to established plans, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum safety for all road users
• Communicate clearly with construction crews, motorists, and pedestrians to provide instructions and updates as needed
• Monitor work zones continuously for hazards or unsafe conditions, reporting issues promptly to supervisors
• Assist with the setup and removal of traffic control equipment at the beginning and end of shifts
• Follow all safety procedures and regulations to maintain a secure work environment
• Support heavy equipment operation or paving activities when required, demonstrating versatility in construction site tasks

Requirements

• At least 1 year prior experience in construction or traffic control roles is preferred but not mandatory; training will be provided for the right candidate
• Strong understanding of safety protocols related to traffic management and construction sites
• Excellent communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and the public
• Physical stamina to stand, walk, or assist in setting up traffic control devices for extended periods
• A valid Traffic Control Person (TCP) / Flagger certification — this is required by law in Nova Scotia to direct traffic, and you must hold current certification before starting on site
• Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation

Pay: $19.00-$20.00 per hour
