SUMMIT, An Earth Services Company is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join the Environmental Planning and Management (EPM) Division as a Biologist (Competition #25-07-0718) based out of our Lloydminster, Alberta office. Reporting to the EPM divisional Project Manager, you will have an opportunity to lead (and participate as a member of the team) a diverse array of environmental planning projects in the energy sector. This is a full-time position and requiring both field and office component support.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

As the successful candidate you will focus on pre-development baseline environmental assessments and environmental monitoring within the energy sector. You will support continued execution projects in a capacity of permitting and approvals, regular reporting, site observations, environmental assessments, and recommendations. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to mentor and capacitate team members in their roles to continually improve knowledge on regulatory and industry guidelines. You will be trusted to ensure the safety, continued quality, cost efficiency and timeliness of project deliverables.

You will have a safety-first attitude, with an ability to take initiative and ownership in a fast-paced multidisciplinary project team environment. Familiarity with the species (wildlife and vegetation) local to the region is required.
This role is locally based in Lloydminster, Alberta; however, site visits beyond Alberta, throughout western Canada may to be required to support Summit projects.

JOB DUTIES:

You will carry out your duties in consultation with the Manager/Project Manager, EPM, on all matters.

The primary responsibilities of the Biologist include but are not limited to:

  • Participating in/overseeing regulatory compliance for pre-development baseline environmental projects (Environmental Planning).
  • Participating in/leading site identification and monitoring initiatives which may include wildlife, rare plants, wetlands, and/or aquatic/fisheries assessments.
  • Reporting project status on a daily, weekly, monthly and/or as-needed basis.
  • Providing technical expertise in relation to regulated/prescribed surveys, detection, and mitigation measures.
  • Technical Reporting and Regulatory submissions (i.e., EPEA, Water Act, PCRA, etc.).
  • Leading environmental field assessments following regulated protocols (i.e. wetlands, terrestrial, aquatics, and soils).
  • Leading and adaptively managing commitments for on-site construction projects (EI/EM).
  • Providing professional sign-off (professional designation considered an asset).
  • Consultation and engagement with members of an expert, multi-disciplinary technical team for project support.
  • Actively participating in Summit’s strong safety culture.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree or diploma from a recognized institution, specializing in environmental science, biology, ecology, or related specialization.
  • A minimum of 4 years direct consulting or environmental industry experience.
  • Familiarity with wildlife, vegetation, wetlands, and/or aquatic/fisheries assessments.
  • Understanding and familiarity with Water Act Submissions, RTFs etc.
  • Relevant experience on active construction sites observing various contractors and understanding environmental risks/impacts.
  • Ability to travel to remote locations, potentially for extended periods of time.

  • Registration, or eligibility for registration, with a relevant professional organization.
