Full job description

Irwin's Safety is a trusted provider of industrial safety training, delivering practical, hands-on instruction that helps workers do their jobs safely and in compliance with regulatory standards. We deliver training throughout Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, working with clients in industry and in Indigenous communities. We're growing our roster of instructors and looking for experienced, credentialed safety professionals to join our team.

Position Summary

We are seeking Certified Safety Instructors to deliver engaging, high-quality training sessions using our established certification courses across a variety of industrial safety topics. Instructors will work with clients on-site or at training centers, adapting their delivery to each audience while maintaining consistent, high standards of instruction and documentation.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver classroom and hands-on safety training sessions to individuals and groups, using established course materials.
  • Evaluate trainees in both classroom and practical settings; provide feedback grounded in safety and best practice.
  • Share real-world knowledge and safe operating practices with every cohort you train.
  • Issue certifications and maintain accurate, compliant training records and documentation.
  • Adapt your delivery style to different industries, audiences, and worksite conditions — including industrial clients and Indigenous communities.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes (WorkSafeBC, Alberta OHS, Saskatchewan OHS/WCB, CSA, or other applicable standards) as directed.
  • Represent Irwin's Safety professionally at client sites, job fairs, and industry events.
  • Travel to client locations and training sites across Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan as required.

Topics You May Teach

Depending on your certifications, you may be scheduled to teach across one or more of the following categories from our full training directory (see irwinsafety.com/training-course-directory for the complete course list):

  • Core Courses — e.g., Fall Protection, WHMIS 2015, Confined Space Entry Monitor, Control of Hazardous Energy, Fire Extinguisher Awareness, First Aid (Basic through Advanced), Gas Detection, CSTS/ESTS
  • Skills Courses — e.g., Forklift, Aerial Work Platform, Rigging Fundamentals, heavy equipment (Dozer, Grader, Excavator, Loader, Skid Steer, and similar), Defensive Driving, Flagger & Traffic Control
  • Rope Access Courses — e.g., High Angle Rope Rescue, SPRAT, Tower Rescue Awareness/Operations/Technician
  • Emergency Response Courses — e.g., Hazmat Awareness/Operations/Technician, Emergency Medical Responder, Swift Water Rescue, Wildfire Suppression (S-100 series)
  • Instructor Training — Train the Trainer

Other topics may be added as needed, based on instructor certification.

What We're Looking For

  • Current certification(s) as a safety trainer/instructor in one or more of the topics above (e.g., authorized trainer credentials, train-the-trainer certificates, or equivalent).
  • 3+ years of hands-on industrial, construction, oil & gas, or manufacturing safety experience.
  • Experience working with adult learners in a variety of settings — classroom, field, and community-based.
  • Prior classroom or field instruction experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong public speaking, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Comfortable and respectful working across diverse groups, including industrial crews and Indigenous communities.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to client sites as needed.
  • Willingness to complete on-site safety orientations, where applicable.

Position Details

  • Employment Type: Casual, as needed
  • Locations: Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan — instructors needed across our service regions, serving both industrial clients and Indigenous communities
  • Schedule: Flexible; based on client training calendars, including occasional evenings/weekends

Pay: From $400.00 per day
