Fire Alarm Technician
Western Canada Fire Protection
Western Canada Fire Protection has served Southern Vancouver Island for over 37 years. We keep people safe in the buildings they live and work in, and we take that seriously. We're growing, and we're looking for the right person to join our service team.
We'd rather hire the right person and teach them fire alarms than hire the wrong person who already knows them.
About the Role
As a Fire Alarm Technician, you'll inspect, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair fire alarm systems across residential, commercial, and institutional sites. You'll make sure systems are compliant, fully operational, and properly documented to code.
If you're already doing this work, you'll hit the ground running. If you're not, you'll be paired with an experienced technician and trained properly — we've done it before and it works.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform annual and routine inspections of fire alarm systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards
- Test, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair fire alarm panels, devices, and related life safety equipment
- Install and verify fire alarm system components as required
- Conduct system functionality checks to ensure proper operation
- Complete accurate, detailed service reports and keep site records current
- Communicate clearly with clients — explain the work you did and make professional recommendations
- Respond to service calls as part of an on-call rotation
- Work safely and stay compliant with all company and regulatory safety procedures
Who We're Looking For
If you're amazing, you'll know it when you read this.
You've been on teams in your life. You love working hard. You do what you say you'll do, when you said you'd do it. And you have a real regard for learning and growing.
That's the list that matters. Some of the best people we've hired didn't have a single technical qualification when they walked in. We trained them, and they became the people our customers ask for by name.
We especially welcome veterans and reservists. If you've served, you already have the thing we can't teach — you show up, you follow through, and you look after the person next to you. We'll teach you the rest.
What We Require
- A valid driver's licence
- Willingness to participate in the on-call rotation
- The ability to work on your own and alongside a crew, and to talk to customers like a human being
What We'll Train You On
- Troubleshooting fire alarm and low-voltage electrical systems
- Reading and interpreting drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
- CFAA certification and ASTTBC Registered Fire Protection Technician designation
Nice to Have, Not Needed
- 1–3 years in the fire alarm industry
- An existing CFAA or ASTTBC designation
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly wage: $27.00–$42.00 per hour, based on experience — new technicians start at the lower end and move up as they certify and take on independent work
- Company vehicle
- Comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, extended health)
- Paid overtime and on-call compensation
- Paid certification and training — we invest in getting you designated
- Hands-on mentorship from technicians who've been doing this for years
- A supportive team and long-term growth. People stay here.
How to Apply
Send us your resume. Skip the formal cover letter — instead, tell us in a few sentences about a time you said you'd do something hard and then did it.
