PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Specialist, Financial Planning, you will serve as a strategic finance partner to Operations leadership, driving the financial planning, forecasting, and performance management processes for a critical business portfolio. In this highly visible role, you will own the annual budget, lead forecasting activities, and deliver meaningful financial analysis that helps leaders make informed, data-driven decisions. By identifying trends, risks, and opportunities, you will provide insights that influence operational performance and business strategy while collaborating with stakeholders across the organization. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of key financial processes, build strong partnerships, and make a direct impact on operational and financial success.


POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Translate operational changes into a financial forecast with a focus on accuracy and timeliness
  • Proactively look for improvements in the forecasting process; identifying key drivers while gaining a thorough understanding of the business model
  • Provide support to Operations by developing a comprehensive, detailed annual budget for all cost centers, working closely with operational leaders to develop and incorporate initiatives
  • Responsible for continually improving reporting and analysis for key stakeholders, using all available systems to further automate key reports and providing insightful analyses
  • Assist in ad hoc requests from the operational leaders, providing support in an accurate and timely manner


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics or other relevant fields
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a finance‑related role, preferably with an operational or planning focus.
  • Experience in Business Consolidation and Planning (BPC) is desirable
  • MS Excel Modelling Skills
  • Continuous process improvement, inquiring mindset, and strong attention to detail

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
