Full job description

Canto to Mando is hiring a full-time YouTube Scriptwriter & Production Coordinator to help run our long-form YouTube content pipeline.

This is an in-person Toronto role. Filming will happen in a home studio environment. You will help write scripts, manage the content pipeline in Notion, organize filming days, set up basic filming equipment, coordinate with editors, and make sure videos move from idea to published on schedule.

This is a junior role with training. You do not need to be an expert producer on day one, but you must be fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English, highly organized, fast at writing, and willing to improve through high-volume feedback.

The baseline expectation is one complete YouTube script draft per workday.

Responsibilities:

- Script, plan and outline YouTube videos

- Turn raw ideas into clear YouTube outlines and scripts

- Research topics and ideas related to Cantonese, Mandarin, Chinese culture, family, identity, language learning, and heritage speakers

- Manage the YouTube content pipeline in Notion

- Track script status, editor handoffs, deadlines, filming dates, and publishing readiness

- Organize filming days and prepare shoot agendas

- Set up basic filming equipment: camera, lights, microphone, tripod, teleprompter

- Check framing, audio, lighting, and recording setup before filming

- Keep footage and assets organized after each shoot

- Upload footage and notes for editors

- Create editor notes so videos are edited according to spec

Requirements:

- Fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English

- Strong written English

- Strong understanding of Cantonese/Chinese culture, family dynamics, and heritage speaker identity

- Interested in YouTube, storytelling, scripting, and content strategy

- Organized enough to manage Notion, deadlines, and production details

- Able to take direct feedback and revise quickly

- Comfortable producing a high volume of drafts and improving through repetition

- Comfortable working in person in Toronto

- Willing to learn basic camera, lighting, audio, and home-studio setup

Nice to have:

- Experience writing YouTube scripts

- Experience with Notion

- Experience managing editors or creative projects

- Basic filming or production experience

Benefits / Why this role is valuable:

- Work closely with the founder and get direct feedback on content, scripting, YouTube strategy, and business growth

- Learn the full YouTube production pipeline from idea to script to filming to editing to publishing

- Hands-on training in scripting, storytelling, production, Notion operations, and content management

- Opportunity to grow into a YouTube Channel Manager / Content Lead role as the channel scales

- Hybrid / work-from-home flexibility once you are properly trained and consistently meeting expectations

- Performance bonus eligibility after probation

- Clear opportunity to build a portfolio in YouTube, language learning, Chinese culture, and creator-led education

Compensation:

- Starting pay: $17.60-$18.00 per hour (can be higher depending on experience)

- 40 hours per week

- Full-time role

- Performance bonus eligibility after probation

- Growth path into YouTube Channel Manager / Content Lead

How to apply:

Please include a short note about your Cantonese, Mandarin, and English background, why you are interested in the role, and any writing, YouTube, or content samples you have. Shortlisted candidates will complete a work-sample test.

Pay: $17.60-$18.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Flexible schedule

Application question(s):

  • Please briefly describe your Cantonese, Mandarin, and English background. Also confirm whether you can work in person in Toronto, are comfortable writing one complete YouTube script draft per workday, and can share any writing, YouTube, or content samples.

Work Location: In person
