Full job description

You’re looking for a role where you can work with your hands, keep things moving, and be part of a team that makes things you’ll see on the big screen. We serve the film and TV industry. We need someone who’s ready to roll up their sleeves and bring energy, precision, and pride to the work.

We’re Materialistic — a small-but-mighty, hands-on sewing and screen fabrication shop, based in a sunlit, shabby-chic warehouse in South Etobicoke. We make massive green and blue screens (plus other weird and wonderful things) that help bring movies and shows to life.

We are looking for a Production Sewing Assistant to help fabricate, repair, and maintain soft goods for film productions throughout the country.

You’ll Thrive in This Role If You…

  • Enjoy working with industrial sewing machines
  • Confidently draft production-ready patterns
  • Like variety in your day, from sewing to drafting to repairing materials
  • Are comfortable lifting, moving, and organizing large pieces of fabric
  • Work well with others and can adapt to shifting priorities
  • Take pride in your craftsmanship

Bonus points if you’ve got a post-secondary education in fashion or a similar field!

What You'll Do

  • Sew and repair large-scale fabrics and soft goods using industrial machines
  • Draft simple patterns for projects (within your experience level)
  • Clean and prepare screens and materials for orders
  • Pack, label, and track shipments and returns
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing materials for quality and accuracy
  • Keep your workspace, equipment, and tools in top shape
  • Collaborate with other team members to meet deadlines
  • Pitch in wherever needed - we’re a small team and we help each other out

What We Offer

  • A permanent, full-time role (Monday to Friday)
  • A wage of $17.60 – $19 per hour
  • Dental, extended health care, and a program that gives extra benefits
  • Hands-on training with industrial sewing equipment and fabrication techniques
  • A close-knit team that works hard, laughs often, and celebrates wins together
  • Work you can point to with pride, saying, “I made that!”
  • Free coffee, decent snacks, and the occasional dance break

Location

We work on-site at our warehouse in South Etobicoke. Free street parking. Transit-accessible. Occasional fabric avalanche.
