Full job description

Overview

This position performs essential manual tasks, including tending to poultry, operating machinery, and may also plant / harvest crops. Work may be outdoors or inside barns. This is a physically demanding role that may require heavy lifting and long hours. This posting is for an existing vacancy.

Tasks

  • Handling and caring for poultry
  • Set and monitor water lines, air flow and temperature in barns, pens and chicken coops
  • Monitoring animal health; removing any trapped, sick or dead birds
  • Gathering eggs; packing and operating equipment
  • Running manure belts and adjusting litter depth when necessary
  • Monitoring and removing pests
  • Keeping the barn clean, which includes manure removal and blow down
  • Maintaining sick pens for injured birds
  • Disinfect pens, barns or poultry houses
  • Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed
  • Perform general farm maintenance on caging equipment, including installations when necessary
  • Maintain livestock performance records; write daily basic progress reports; keep logs and maintain records
  • Other duties i.e. equipment maintenance, general cleaning maintenance, loading and unloading trucks/trailers

Skills and Experience Required

Education
