Full job description

As the largest not-for-profit provider of seniors’ care in Alberta and British Columbia, The Good Samaritan Society and Good Samaritan Canada (together, Good Samaritan) have been providing exceptional care and support since 1949. We are faith-based, not-for-profit organizations committed to creating safe, comfortable communities where individuals experience caring, belonging, and purpose.

Reporting to the Director of Quality and Professional Development, the Educator Coordinator is responsible for the delivery of required provincial, organizational and legislative education at GSS/GSC care homes. They provide leadership and mentorship to all GSS employees, with a clinical care focus. They develop, implement and evaluate educational programs and ensure amendments occur with changes in legislation. The role supports ongoing mentoring and coaching of staff. Creates curriculum to be supportive of legislative and standards requirements. The Education Coordinator role is a key clinical support resource for all levels of frontline staff and collaborates with Managers and the quality department to ensure that all policies and process are in place as pertinent to the role to facilitate safe, quality person centered resident care.

Educational and other Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Equivalent
  • Active registration in good standing with CARNA or BCCNP
  • Certification in gerontology is an asset.

Work Experience

  • Recent professional experience in care of the elderly
  • Experience in education and demonstrated ability in enhancing learning of others
  • 2-5 years of clinical practice.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to deal effectively with change management in a

diplomatic and professional manner

  • Comfortable using the computer including email, internet and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to create and write educational materials
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational and leadership skills and is able to motivate and coach staff
  • Demonstrates an ability to utilize multiple communication tools
  • Exhibits an open and sincere approach by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone
  • Maintain an individual’s dignity and self-worth with all interactions
  • Demonstrates flexibility by changing routine to accommodate organizational needs

Requirements:

  • A current and clear Criminal Records Check Form and Clearance Letter prior to the hire date.
  • A tuberculosis screening that has been completed no more than 12 months prior to the hire date.
