Full job description
Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society (LFVAS) is accepting applications for a Outreach Worker position in our Housing Department.
The Housing Department is responsible for providing basic needs, housing, and general support to Langley’s Urban Indigenous people in accordance with our Mission and Mandate. Our Women's program and Spirit Path home is also part of our housing department.
Reporting to the Housing Coordinator, this position works closely with individuals and families at risk of housing insecurity and unhoused people. This position works with other community partner organizations, landlords, hotel/motel operators, government representatives, as well as other LFVAS staff. The successful applicant practices cultural agility while using a client-centered, strength-based approach to service and has at least TWO YEARS of previous STREET outreach experience working with multi-barriered and extremely vulnerable persons.
TERM: Start ASAP, ongoing
HOURS OF WORK: Full time 35 hours/week including at least ONE evening shift WEEKLY. Additional weekends, and on-call work may be required.
WORK LOCATION: Langley and surrounding areas
COMPENSATION: $32.49/hr, commensurate with education and experience

QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM TWO YEARS DIRECT SERVICE DELIVERY AND STREET OUTREACH WITH VULNERABLE POPULATIONS. COMFORTABLE SERVING PEOPLE WHO USE SUBSTANCES.
· Diploma or degree with an emphasis on meeting the needs of vulnerable populations which may include disciplines and fields of study such as social work, mental health, addictions, psychology, nursing, CYC, or Indigenous Studies.
· Minimum 2 years of experience in case management, community outreach, mental health, addictions, or housing programs in a front-line capacity
· Demonstrated working knowledge of client-centered, trauma-informed practice
· Experience utilizing principles of harm reduction to support vulnerable clients
· Must be well-versed in cultural sensitivity and have an understanding and knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions, and the historical issues impacting Urban Indigenous families
· Willingness and ability to work independently and participate as a collaborative team member
· Proficient in Microsoft Office365 applications (e.g., Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook)
· Must have a reliable vehicle and a valid BC Class 5 driver’s license and provide a driver’s abstract
This is an outreach position and requires leaving the office regularly to meet clients in the community and to provide street outreach to unhoused clients. Applicants must be comfortable administering Naloxone.
