Full job description

Financial Operations & Treasury Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations across approximately 10 related entities, including accounts payable, billings where applicable, payroll-related banking, investments, and general ledger activity. Multiple entities are low volume in nature.
  • Support and coordinate annual budgeting, cash flow and liquidity requirements across Canadian and U.S. entities, including USD funding and related transfers.
  • Monitor banking activity and maintain effective treasury controls.
  • Experience with commercial real estate and property management accounting, including establishing and administering common area maintenance (CAM) and operating cost recovery structures, would be considered an asset.

Accounting, Month-End & Financial Reporting:

  • Maintain complete accounting records in Sage for Canadian and U.S. entities.
  • Lead month-end reconciliations, including bank, investment, loan, intercompany, and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare balance sheets, income statements, financial analyses, and management reporting, as needed.
  • Review revenue, expenses, cash flow, and account variances; investigate and resolve reconciling items.
  • Prepare year-end working paper files and coordinate financial statement preparation with external accountants.

Compliance-related matters:

  • Review and reconcile investment activity, loan repayments, dividend-related transactions, and quarterly receipts.
  • Coordinate Canadian and U.S. tax filings with external accountants and tax advisors.
  • Ensure compliance with ASPE and applicable tax, regulatory, and government reporting requirements.

Charitable Foundation Governance & Administration:

  • Support board meeting administration and finance for a charitable foundation.
  • Prepare board packages, resolutions, financial reports, and governance documentation.
  • Coordinate the year-end financial reporting and tax return process with the Board of Directors and external public accountants.
  • Support charitable reporting, regulatory compliance, recordkeeping, and communication among directors, management, auditors, and advisors.

Leadership, Controls & Coordination:

  • Train, mentor, and supervise office or administrative staff as required.
  • Serve as a liaison with ownership, directors, banks, legal counsel, auditors, external accountants, and tax advisors.
  • Continuously improve accounting processes, records, reporting timelines, and treasury procedures.
  • Manage competing priorities across multiple entities in a confidential and self-directed manner.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation required.
  • Several years of progressive accounting, bookkeeping, controllership, or supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE, corporate tax, GST/HST, payroll-related remittances, and multi-entity accounting.
  • Proficiency with Sage, Microsoft Excel, online banking platforms, and financial reporting tools.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, discreet, analytical, and able to work independently.

Pay: $85,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
