Position Summary

The CNC Machinist & Technologist is responsible for the accurate setup, operation, documentation, and continuous improvement of CNC machining processes for assigned machines and part families. This role requires strong GD&T literacy, a deep understanding of machining fundamentals, and the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings. Machinists are expected to maintain a comprehensive understanding of their assigned equipment, tooling requirements, preventative maintenance needs, and standard work procedures.

This position is designed for individuals who demonstrate a bias for action, a commitment to craftsmanship, and a desire to contribute to organizational knowledge—especially in the machining of high‑complexity components.

Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering drawings, models, and specifications with strong proficiency in GD&T.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor CNC mills, lathes, and multi‑axis machining centers for high‑complexity components.
  • Validate and document standard work procedures, including setup sheets, tooling lists, offsets, and in‑process checks.
  • Perform first‑article inspections and verify conformance using precision measurement tools.
  • Identify tooling requirements, maintain tooling inventories, and collaborate with programming/engineering on toolpath optimization.
  • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on assigned machines; report abnormalities promptly.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues related to chatter, tool wear, surface finish, dimensional variation, and work holding.
  • Maintain accurate records of part numbers, revisions, and process changes.

Quality & Compliance

  • Follow Dishon’s quality management system, including documentation, traceability, and non‑conformance reporting.
  • Apply statistical thinking and root‑cause analysis to reduce variation and improve process capability.
  • Ensure all work adheres to safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Collaboration & Knowledge Development

  • Work closely with engineering, programming, and quality teams to refine machining strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of organizational knowledge through documentation, mentorship, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in cross‑functional problem‑solving and kaizen activities.
  • Support onboarding and training of junior machinists.

Behavioral Expectations

  • Demonstrate a bias for action, ownership, and accountability.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Show curiosity and commitment to expanding machining knowledge.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with peers and leadership.

QualificationsRequired

  • 3–5+ years of CNC machining experience (milling, turning, or multi‑axis).
  • Strong GD&T literacy and blueprint interpretation skills.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools.
  • Experience machining tight‑tolerance, high‑complexity components.
  • Ability to document standard work and follow controlled processes.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and mechanical aptitude.

Preferred

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or high‑precision manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with CAM programming concepts (Mastercam, NX, ESPRIT or similar).
  • Experience with exotic materials (Inconel, titanium, stainless steels).
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement methodologies.

Working Conditions

  • Full‑time, on‑site role in Concord, Ontario.
  • Work involves standing, lifting moderate loads, and operating industrial machinery.
  • PPE required; safety training provided.
  • Opportunities for overtime, cross‑training, and advancement.
