FTC Innovation is one of Canada's fastest-growing telecommunications infrastructure contractors, delivering turnkey fiber optic solutions from engineering and civil construction through customer activation.

With operations spanning multiple provinces and continued expansion across North America, we are seeking a proven Director of Operations to lead our national Construction and MDU divisions.

This is an executive leadership role responsible for operational excellence, financial performance, client satisfaction, and the continued growth of our business across Canada.

Position Summary

The Director of Operations will oversee all operational activities across multiple provinces, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. This leader will be responsible for managing regional operations teams, driving strategic initiatives, improving productivity, and maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Reporting directly to the President, the successful candidate will lead multiple departments including construction, MDU deployment, installation & repair, field operations, project management, and operational support functions.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership for all construction and MDU operations across Canada.
  • Develop and execute operational strategies that support company growth and profitability.
  • Ensure consistent execution of company standards across all provinces.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.

People Leadership

  • Lead Regional Operations Managers, Project Managers, Construction Managers, and Field Leadership teams.
  • Build high-performing teams through coaching, mentoring, accountability, and succession planning.
  • Recruit and develop future operational leaders.
  • Foster a culture centered on safety, performance, and operational excellence.

Financial Accountability

  • Own operational budgets and regional P&L performance.
  • Monitor labour productivity, equipment utilization, subcontractor performance, and project profitability.
  • Review forecasts and operational reports to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Implement cost-control initiatives while maintaining quality and client expectations.

Project Delivery

  • Oversee multiple concurrent construction and MDU programs nationwide.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Resolve escalated operational issues and remove barriers impacting project execution.
  • Coordinate resources across provinces to maximize efficiency and productivity.

Client Relations

  • Develop and maintain executive-level relationships with clients and strategic partners.
  • Participate in operational reviews, business development meetings, and contract negotiations.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service and long-term client satisfaction.
  • Represent FTC Innovation during executive meetings and industry events.

Health, Safety & Quality

  • Champion a strong safety culture across all operations.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial regulations, client standards, and company policies.
  • Drive quality assurance programs and operational audits.
  • Promote continuous improvement through KPI monitoring and operational reviews.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in telecommunications, utility construction, infrastructure, or civil construction.
  • Minimum 5 years leading multi-location or regional operations.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale construction or telecommunications programs.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing operational budgets and P&Ls.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
  • Strong knowledge of FTTH, MDU deployments, underground and aerial construction, customer activations, and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and executive leadership skills.
  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout Canada.
