  • Do you love the hustle and bustle of overseeing a team during an event?
  • Are you a team-oriented, customer-service focused, solutions-minded person?
  • Are you the most organized person you know?

If that sounds like you, we want you on our team!

We are currently seeking an On-Call Event Recycling Manager to join a diverse, supportive, close-knit team of Growing City-zens. This position would require onsite work during most weekends and occasional mid-week events. Events are sometimes indoor or outdoors, so you must be comfortable to work outside in various weather conditions. Note that there is no fixed schedule.

Your experience can help us recycle and reduce waste across Greater Vancouver - and beyond!

This position pays $30-33 per hour, based on experience. Expect anywhere from 10 - 30+ hours per month from this role.

We do events throughout the year, so there is the possibility of additional work available after the Summer season for those interested!

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee onsite staff to ensure all recycling & waste management services are completed (ex. All waste bins are emptied on schedule, all grounds are clean and orderly, staff are performing their roles as required)
  • Record all onsite staff hours and manage their break times, uniforms, snacks, and schedule
  • Follow instructions provided by the manager to deliver event service needs
  • Manage and keep to scheduled event timings provided by manager
  • Act as our Growing City representative on event days by managing client requests and troubleshooting operational issues as they arise
  • Ensure adherence to venue policies and procedures with respect to health and safety, customer service, and onsite staff
  • Oversee event equipment set up, so as all bins and equipment are placed in their arranged areas, are well maintained and stocked, and are properly returned after each event
  • Assist with event zero waste targets, ensuring materials are properly separated by stream, keeping track of data as required
  • Contribute feedback on event service and opportunities for our team to improve on performance, sustainability, and planning
  • Manage consecutive and concurrent events and projects, including multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Actively contribute to a positive team culture and improvement of the organization through participation in team meetings, involvement in special projects and implementing learnings from post-event briefings.

Position Requirements

The minimum requirements for this position are:

  • Some experience in the live events industry
  • Must be able to work an event-based work schedule which includes weekends, late nights, extended hours, and extended work event weeks
  • Must possess good decision-making skills with the ability to react well to high-pressure situations and tight timelines.
  • A valid BC Driver’s license or equivalent; or the ability to get yourself to and from events on time
  • Physical strength (you may be required to lift heavy items, like boxes of recycling bags, or bags of material)
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken);
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Comfortable with drug testing and must pass a criminal background check
  • Must be comfortable getting a little dirty and being outdoors in all weather
  • Must be comfortable with crowds, working with the public, loud music, bright lights, fireworks, and fun!
  • Comfortable with being on your feet / walking for 8+ hours
  • Basic First Aid Training

You should have

  • A Safety-first attitude
  • Work well in a team but are also a self-starter who works well independently
  • A solutions-oriented mindset
  • Are passionate about the environment
  • Have an energetic and positive personality!
  • Recycling and waste management experience is a huge asset!
