About Beacon Heights ECS
Beacon Heights ECS is a growing Early Childhood Services program dedicated to helping children reach their full potential through individualized education, early intervention, and collaborative support.
We serve preschool and kindergarten children, including those accessing Program Unit Funding (PUF) and Mild/Moderate supports. Through a multidisciplinary approach that brings together teachers, classroom support staff, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, behavioural consultants, and families, we create inclusive learning environments where children can thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and developmentally.
Position Overview
We are seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and community-minded volunteers to support our school programs, community engagement initiatives, and special events.
Volunteers play an important role in helping Beacon Heights ECS connect with families, strengthen community relationships, and create welcoming experiences for children and their families.
This position offers a variety of opportunities, including community events, school activities, outreach initiatives, communications, and administrative support. Volunteers may participate in different activities based on their interests, skills, availability, and organizational needs.
We welcome individuals who are friendly, responsible, adaptable, and passionate about contributing to their community. Whether you are a student looking to gain experience, a professional interested in giving back, or someone who enjoys working with people, we would love to hear from you.
Volunteer Opportunities & Responsibilities
1. Community Events & Festivals
- Represent Beacon Heights ECS at community festivals, markets, and public events.
- Assist with setting up and taking down event booths, displays, and promotional materials.
- Welcome visitors, distribute informational materials, and share basic information about our programs.
- Support interactive activities, giveaways, and visitor engagement.
- Assist staff with event logistics and maintaining an organized, welcoming booth.
2. School Events & Open Houses
- Assist with preparing and organizing school events, open houses, and family engagement activities.
- Welcome families and visitors and direct them to appropriate staff or activity areas.
- Support event registration, sign-in tables, and distribution of materials.
- Assist with setting up activity stations, refreshments, and event spaces.
- Support event cleanup and organization.
3. Community Outreach & Engagement
- Assist with preparing informational packages, brochures, and outreach materials.
- Support approved community outreach initiatives and awareness campaigns.
- Help organize materials for partnership meetings and presentations.
- Assist with identifying community organizations and potential outreach opportunities.
- Support staff with community engagement projects as assigned.
4. Classroom & Learning Activities
- Assist classroom staff with preparing educational materials, crafts, and learning activities.
- Support teacher-led classroom activities under direct staff supervision.
- Help organize classroom supplies, books, toys, and learning resources.
- Assist with preparing materials for seasonal activities and special classroom projects.
- Contribute to maintaining an organized and welcoming learning environment.
Classroom volunteers work under staff supervision and do not independently supervise children, provide personal care, or deliver specialized educational or therapeutic interventions.
5. Communications & Creative Support
- Assist with creating promotional materials, graphics, and event displays.
- Support approved social media and communications projects.
- Help organize photographs, digital resources, and promotional materials.
- Assist with preparing newsletters, posters, and community announcements.
- Support photography or video activities when authorized and in accordance with organizational consent and privacy policies.
6. Administrative & Organizational Support
- Assist with organizing, assembling, and preparing school and outreach materials.
- Support filing, inventory organization, and general administrative projects.
- Help prepare supplies and resources for upcoming events.
- Assist with data entry and other approved administrative tasks.
- Support special projects as directed by the designated supervisor.
Volunteer Requirements
- A genuine interest in supporting children, families, and the community.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Dependability, punctuality, and a willingness to follow instructions.
- A friendly, respectful, and professional attitude.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively with staff and other volunteers.
- Commitment to a minimum of 8 volunteer hours per month, completed through one 8-hour shift or two 4-hour shifts.
- Willingness to follow organizational policies, confidentiality requirements, and health and safety procedures.
- Completion of required screening, orientation, and training before beginning assigned duties.
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check, where required for the assigned volunteer role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience volunteering or working in education, childcare, community services, events, or non-profit organizations.
- Experience working with children or families.
- Interest in early childhood education, psychology, social work, communications, or community development.
- Experience with event coordination, public engagement, or administrative support.
- Familiarity with Canva, social media platforms, or other creative tools.
- Additional language skills are considered an asset.
Previous volunteer experience is not required. Training and guidance will be provided.

Volunteer Schedule & Expectations
Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of 8 hours per month, which can be completed through:
- One 8-hour shift per month, or
- Two 4-hour shifts per month.
Volunteer shifts may take place during regular school hours, evenings, or weekends, depending on organizational needs and scheduled activities.
Volunteers are expected to arrive on time, communicate scheduling changes in advance, fulfill their monthly commitment, and complete assigned responsibilities professionally.
Volunteer assignments will be determined based on organizational needs, individual interests, qualifications, and availability.
