Team Lead - Bakery

Queen St Bakery is looking for a Team Lead Operator to join our fast-paced food start-up. We are a gluten free food manufacturer that since launching in 2018 has grown exponentially and now is looking to expand internationally.

Job location: Scarborough, ON

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES:

  • Ensures that operations procedures and processes are followed and enforced daily. This includes: safety, quality, yield, product and labour costing, public relations, HACCP, BRC, etc.
  • Ensures that Production employees have received adequate good manufacturing practices and technical training and that all staff are following all procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensures that products manufactured in the department meet the regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Manage all baking and proofing activities while have a good understanding of baking profiles
  • Participates on new product development and plant trials.
  • Verify employee records or forms related to health & safety, production, and time sheets on a weekly basis, and liaise with employees to correct any inaccuracies.

People Supervision:

  • Organize and supervise the activities and work of a small team of subordinates to ensure that all assigned work activity is carried out in an efficient and procedurally compliant manner.
  • Provide formal and informal feedback to subordinates to ensure their continuous development and overall contribution to the achievement of Queen St. Bakery business strategy.

Policies, Processes & Procedures

  • Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of improved departmental processes, policies and procedures.

Necessary Knowledge and Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a food manufacturing industry, preferably bakery with a minimum of 1-2 years of people training experience
  • Been in a leadhand position in the food industry (Preferably Baking)
  • Experience with HACCP and GMP procedures
  • Experience in operating commercial mixing and baking equipment( Mixers, Ovens, Proofers)
  • Experience with following recipes from scratch ( Preferably Gluten free)
  • Experience with production paperwork
  • Able to lift to 50lbs
  • Availability for weekend shifts.

Working Conditions: Plant based; 95% of time is spent on the plant floor; 5% of time is spent in office setting (plant office) – Situational based.

  • 8.5-10 Hour Shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Evening shifts (3:30pm-12:00pm)

Experience:

  • Supervisory: 1-3 years (Preferred)
  • Food manufacturing industry: 3 years (Preferred)

Education:

  • Secondary School (Preferred)
