Wok Cook – MAKAAM

MAKAAM, located in the vibrant Time Out Market at Oakridge Park, offers a modern interpretation of Southeast Asian cuisine, bringing together bold flavors, premium ingredients, and exceptional hospitality in a dynamic dining environment. We are seeking a talented, motivated, and detail-oriented Wok Cook to join our growing culinary team.

Position Summary

The Wok Cook is responsible for managing a designated section of the kitchen, ensuring all dishes are prepared, cooked, and presented to Makaam's standards. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform efficiently during busy service periods while maintaining food safety and cleanliness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and present menu items according to established recipes and presentation standards.
  • Manage and maintain your assigned station during preparation and service.
  • Complete daily mise en place and ensure adequate stock levels for service.
  • Ensure consistency, quality, and portion control of all dishes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations and kitchen areas.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Properly store, label, and rotate food products.
  • Assist with inventory management and stock replenishment.
  • Collaborate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house team members.
  • Accommodate guests with allergies and dietary restrictions following established procedures.
  • Support catering events, special promotions, and seasonal menu initiatives.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior kitchen staff.
  • Maintain and clean kitchen equipment according to operational standards.
  • Report equipment issues, safety concerns, or incidents to management promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support kitchen operations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of professional kitchen experience, preferably in a high-volume restaurant, upscale casual, or fine dining environment.
  • Culinary diploma or equivalent professional experience is considered an asset.
  • Valid FoodSafe certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, sanitation, and kitchen operations.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to food quality.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn and grow.
