JOB DESCRIPTION FOR FIELD TECHNICIAN

SUMMARY:

Since 1994, Epoch Environmental Consulting has been committed to ensuring health and safety through inspection, material identification and risk assessment of hazardous materials -- primarily asbestos, lead and mold. The Kelowna EPOCH office serves the Thompson-Okanagan region. The head office is in the Coquitlam, BC and there are two additional offices in Abbotsford and Kamloops.
As the Thompson Okanagan is large territory, the candidate must be a competent driver and it is preferred he/she, lives in or near Kelowna to facilitate commute times to and from the office and job sites.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

-Collecting information on work environments and conditions using a variety of filed data collection methods (i.e. observation, monitoring or sampling, etc) using WorkSafeBC approved sampling collection methodologies;

-Conducting occupational hygiene assessments and hazardous materials assessments;

Conducting site inspection and air monitoring during hazardous materials remediation projects;

-Analyzing and interpreting collected data, documenting results and providing recommendations;

-Determining exposure concentrations at the site and comparing the results to established government standards, WorkSafe BC regulations and guidelines;

-Collecting asbestos air and bulk material samples;

- Non destructive Lead paint on site testing using portable XRF analyzer;

-Preparing daily field and air monitoring reports;

-Participating in a laboratory quality assurance/quality control program;

- DOP /PAO Testing hepa filtration equipment and calibrating equipment;

-Occasional weekend and after hours work is a requirement of this position, scheduled in rotation with co-workers. Over time pay is compensated.

Occasional out-of-town work is also a requirement of this position, scheduled in rotation with other co-workers. Reimbursement for travel and accomodation expenses are covered by the Company.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:-

Completion of a recognized post-secondary environmental sciences, environmental management, health and safety, building technologist program, diploma or Bachelor’s degree;

This is an entry level position with the prerequisite of post secondary degree or diploma. All training will be provided.

- Candidates with former experience working in the hazardous materials, construction and field work will be prioritized.

Related work experience is helpful but not required as all training will be provided;

-Valid BC Driver License mandatory with good driving record;

-Fluent in the English Language: written and verbal;

- Excellent interpersonal skills with experience in customer service;

-Occasional weekend work and after hours call out to site are a requirement of this position;

-Ability to tote heavy equipment up to 40 lbs or greater to and from project sites.

-if on a Canadian work visa, proof of documentation is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

-Some knowledge and/or experience in the construction, demolition, renovation, or restoration industries.

Working with tools, power tools, field sampling equipment is an asset;

-Familiarity with MS Windows environment and its associated applications Word, Excel, Outlook and Access, Teams;

-Word processing and/keyboarding skills;

-Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, be proactive, troubleshoot and be accountable for one's actions;

-Maintain a friendly and professional rapport with existing, new and prospective clients;

- Ability to work independently and manage time and priorities accordingly;

- Must have a smart phone with cellular data to communicate;

- Must have valid class 5 driver’s license and clean driving record

- Access to their own vehicle if no company car exists- fuel will be reimbursed;

- Must be clean shaven everyday, comply with donning all PPE including 1/2 face and full face masks, Tyvek suits and occasionally showering in a clean room for purposes of decontamination for high risk jobs.
