Overview
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Field Technician to join our technical support team. The Junior Field Technician is the foundational support mechanism for our site operations. This role requires a hands-on, mechanically inclined individual who thrives in a fast-paced construction environment. The successful candidate will act as the right hand to our senior technicians, ensuring equipment is prepped, safety protocols are strictly followed, and fundamental installation and monitoring tasks are executed with precision.
Responsibilities
Field Operations & Technical Support
- Provide direct labor and operational support for the installation of civil and geotechnical instrumentation (e.g., drilling, mixing concrete/postcrete, mounting protective enclosures).
- Perform basic hand-tool and power-tool operations, including fitting mechanical fixings and concrete anchors.
- Conduct basic manual data collection using handheld readouts (e.g., inclinometers, water level meters, VW/digital readouts).
- Assist in geomatics tasks, including acting as a surveyor’s assistant and leveling AMTS (Automated Motorized Total Station) equipment.
- Perform basic electrical tasks, such as stripping wires and executing correct cable terminations.
- Ensure meticulous photographic documentation of all pre- and post-work conditions.
Equipment Stewardship & Logistics
- Prepare, load, and mobilize tools and specialized equipment for daily site deployment.
- Take absolute ownership of toolkits and shared equipment. Thoroughly clean, organize, and properly store gear at the end of every shift to ensure operational readiness for the next day.
- Proactively report any missing, damaged, or uncalibrated equipment immediately.
- Label and safely quarantine decommissioned or retrieved sensors for the Workshop Manager.
- Conduct and document daily vehicle inspections for company fleet assets prior to operation.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Participate actively in daily Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA) and Toolbox Safety Talks.
- Adhere strictly to all site-specific safety requirements and Sixense H&S policies.
- Maintain a clean, clutter-free workspace, both on active construction sites and within the company workshop.
Qualifications/Skills
- Highly punctual and organized individual
- Team player and accountable
- Physical Capability: Must be capable of safely lifting, carrying, and manipulating equipment weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg) independently.
- Working Conditions: Must be able to perform sustained physical labor outdoors in variable Ontario weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and navigate uneven, active construction site terrain safely.
- Driver’s License & Travel: Requires a valid Ontario ‘G’ class license with a clean driving abstract to operate company fleet vehicles.
- Safety Certifications: Working at Heights (WAH) and Confined Space Entry are highly preferred. Employment and site deployment are contingent upon the successful completion of these mandatory training modules during the onboarding period.
- Background: Previous experience as a construction laborer, electrical helper, or surveyor's assistant is highly advantageous.
Salary Range: $65,000-70,000 annually+ competitive compensation package
