Full job description

About the Opportunity

Erritt Construction Ltd. is a growing heavy civil contractor specializing in underground infrastructure, tunnelling and microtunnelling projects.

We are looking for an organized, detail-oriented Junior Design Coordinator / CAD Designer to join our team in Vaughan.

This is an entry-level / early-career position ideally suited to someone with approximately 1–2 years of AutoCAD, drafting, engineering or construction design experience who is looking to develop their technical skills and gain exposure to large and challenging infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will work closely with our project managers, engineers, construction teams, suppliers and fabricators to prepare and coordinate detailed drawings for active construction projects.

Previous tunnelling or heavy civil experience is not required. We are more interested in finding someone with strong AutoCAD skills, excellent attention to detail and a willingness to learn.

What You'll Do

Working with our engineering, project management and field teams, you will:

  • Prepare and revise detailed AutoCAD drawings.
  • Develop plans, sections, elevations and construction details.
  • Prepare structural steel shop and fabrication drawings.
  • Develop drawings for platforms, frames, stairs, access systems, pipe supports, brackets and other fabricated components.
  • Prepare shaft layouts, tunnelling layouts and equipment arrangements.
  • Produce detailed drawings from engineering sketches, mark-ups, field measurements and design concepts.
  • Assist with temporary works and construction methodology drawings.
  • Update contract and consultant drawings to reflect approved changes and field conditions.
  • Coordinate dimensions and details with project managers, engineers, suppliers and fabricators.
  • Review shop drawings and identify dimensional conflicts or missing information.
  • Assist with preparation of as-built and record drawings.
  • Maintain drawing registers and ensure revisions are properly controlled.
  • Assist with design submissions, RFIs and other technical documentation.
  • Attend project sites when required to verify dimensions and existing conditions.

Designs requiring professional engineering will be completed under the direction and review of the appropriate Professional Engineer.

What We're Looking For

This position would suit someone who enjoys technical drawing, problem-solving and working with details.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Comfortable working extensively in AutoCAD.
  • Strong with dimensions, elevations, geometry and spatial coordination.
  • Able to read and understand construction and engineering drawings.
  • Careful and methodical in preparing drawings.
  • Comfortable asking questions and learning from experienced engineers and construction personnel.
  • A good communicator and team player.
  • Able to manage multiple drawing assignments and deadlines.
  • Interested in understanding how the components they draw are actually fabricated and constructed.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Approximately 1–2 years of AutoCAD, drafting, engineering design or related construction experience preferred.
  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related discipline.
  • Strong AutoCAD skills.
  • Experience preparing construction, structural or fabrication drawings is an asset.
  • Experience with Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, Tekla or similar design software is an asset.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Heavy civil, underground infrastructure, structural steel or construction experience is an asset but not required.

Candidates do not need to meet every qualification listed above. We are particularly interested in people who demonstrate strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, organization and a willingness to learn.

Why Join Erritt?

This is an opportunity to develop your technical career while working on large and unique infrastructure projects.

Unlike a traditional drafting position, you will have the opportunity to work directly with engineers, project managers, fabricators and construction crews and see the components and systems you draw actually built in the field.

You will gain exposure to:

  • Underground infrastructure and tunnelling
  • Structural steel and fabrication
  • Deep shafts and temporary works
  • Construction methodology and staging
  • Mechanical and piping layouts
  • Heavy construction equipment
  • Design and constructability coordination

We are looking for someone who wants to learn, develop and take on increasing responsibility as their experience grows.
