Full job description

Since 1980, Marathon Underground Constructors Corporation has been a key player in the construction industry in Canada. We offer a comprehensive range of solutions for underground works, including trenchless operations (tunneling), shoring systems, deep foundations, vertical drilling (geotechnical, environmental, and exploration), grout injection, and a wide range of heavy civil engineering projects, including services for the mining industry.

Marathon provides high-level service to its clients through its in-house engineering department. This department delivers value engineering and innovative solutions, including the implementation of design-build projects.

We are seeking a dedicated Project Coordinator to join our Trenchless Division and support the successful delivery of specialized underground construction projects across Canada.

Position: Project Coordinator – Trenchless Division

Location: Ottawa, Ontario

Reports to: Trenchless Division Manager

Type: Full-time, permanent

Position Overview

The Project Coordinator will provide essential administrative, coordination, and support services to Trenchless Division project teams. This role ensures smooth project execution from pre-construction through to closeout, focusing on trenchless utility installations, tunnelling, and related specialty works. You will work closely with Project Managers, field superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, clients, and internal departments (estimating, safety, procurement, and accounting) in a fast-paced environment involving complex, high-value infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist Project Managers in day-to-day coordination of trenchless construction projects, including scheduling, document control, and progress tracking.

· Prepare, review, and distribute project documentation: RFIs, submittals, change orders, daily/weekly reports, meeting minutes, progress claims, and as-built records.

· Coordinate material procurement, equipment mobilization, subcontractor onboarding, and supplier communications specific to trenchless operations.

· Track project costs, budgets, quantities, and variances; assist with cost coding, invoicing support, and monthly progress reporting.

· Maintain project files, logs (safety, quality, environmental, inspection), and ensure compliance with company and client requirements.

· Schedule and coordinate project meetings, site inspections, client walkthroughs, and regulatory inspections.

· Support risk management, permit applications, utility locates, traffic control plans, and monitoring for trenchless crossings and tunnelling sites.

· Liaise between field crews, office staff, and external stakeholders (municipalities, utilities, engineers) to resolve issues promptly.

· Assist in project closeout: as-built drawings and final documentation packages.

Must Have Qualifications & Requirements

· Post-secondary diploma or degree in Civil/Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Project Management.

· Minimum 2–5 years of experience in a project coordinator or junior project management role within the construction industry (civil infrastructure, utilities, trenchless technology, tunnelling, or heavy civil projects).

· Strong understanding of construction processes, documentation, and project lifecycle; familiarity with trenchless methods (HDD, microtunnelling, pipe jacking, auger boring, etc) is considered a strong asset.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams); experience with construction software such as Procore, Viewpoint, Bluebeam, Primavera P6.

· Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills (verbal and written).

· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports.

· A vehicle, valid driver's license, and willingness to travel to project sites as required (sites may be remote or across provinces).

· Commitment to safety — knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHMIS, and trenchless-specific safety protocols is preferred.

· Ability to work in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment with occasional overtime.

What We Offer

· Competitive salary commensurate with experience

· Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, life insurance)

· RRSP matching program

· Opportunities for professional development and career growth in a growing specialty division

· Exposure to innovative trenchless projects and leading-edge equipment

· Collaborative team environment with a strong safety culture

If you are organized, detail-oriented, thrive in a technical construction setting, and want to contribute to Canada's premier trenchless contractor, we encourage you to apply.

Marathon Underground Constructors Corporation is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
