Founding Research Scientist – AI Thermal Management, Advanced Materials & Technology Commercialization

Greater Toronto Area, Canada (Hybrid/Remote)

Auvrix Energy is a federally incorporated Canadian deep-tech startup focused on addressing a key engineering challenge in next-generation AI infrastructure: thermal management and cooling for high-performance computing systems and AI data centers. Our long-term mission is to develop advanced materials and innovative thermal management technologies that improve performance, energy efficiency, and infrastructure reliability.

Auvrix Energy is currently defining its first commercial technology and building its technical foundation from the ground up. We are seeking an experienced researcher, scientist, engineer, postdoctoral fellow, or technical leader who is excited by the opportunity to help shape the company's first research program, technical roadmap, and commercial product. This is not a role joining an established R&D organization—it is an opportunity to help build one. Working directly with the Founder & CEO, you will help identify and evaluate promising research opportunities, establish collaborations with universities and industry, support research funding initiatives, and contribute to the transformation of innovative research into commercially viable technologies.

If you are passionate about building breakthrough technologies from the earliest stages and want to play a foundational role in creating Auvrix's first technology, research program, and future products, we would welcome the opportunity to speak with you.

What will you be doing?

  • Work directly with the Founder & CEO to define Auvrix Energy's first commercial technology and product.
  • Help establish the company's initial R&D strategy and technical roadmap.
  • Evaluate research opportunities with commercial potential in AI thermal management and advanced materials.
  • Support the identification of promising technologies suitable for product development and commercialization.
  • Establish and strengthen collaborations with universities, research institutes, laboratories, and industry partners.
  • Support technical grant applications and research funding initiatives.
  • Contribute to intellectual property strategy, technology assessment, and future patent opportunities.
  • Help build Auvrix's future technical and research team.
  • Represent Auvrix in technical discussions with researchers, professors, industry partners, and innovation organizations.

Areas of Interest

We are particularly interested in individuals with research or industry experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • AI Data Center Cooling
  • Thermal Management
  • Electronics Cooling
  • Heat Transfer
  • Liquid Cooling
  • Immersion Cooling
  • Two-Phase Cooling
  • Thermal Interface Materials (TIMs)
  • Phase Change Materials (PCMs)
  • Advanced Materials
  • Semiconductor Thermal Management
  • High-Performance Computing (HPC)
  • Heat Exchangers
  • Energy-Efficient Cooling Technologies

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Hold a Master's degree or PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Have experience conducting research in academia, industry, government laboratories, or research institutes.
  • Are interested in building a technology from concept through commercialization.
  • Enjoy working in an entrepreneurial and early-stage environment.
  • Are comfortable helping establish an R&D organization from the ground up.
  • Have experience collaborating with universities, research organizations, or industry partners.
  • Possess strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.

Researchers with Existing Research

Researchers who have developed promising technologies, prototypes, patents, publications, or university research with commercialization potential are strongly encouraged to apply. Auvrix Energy welcomes discussions with researchers interested in continuing the development of their work within an early-stage Canadian deep-tech company and exploring opportunities for industry collaboration, technology development, intellectual property, and commercialization.

Compensation

This is an equity-based founding opportunity. Auvrix Energy is currently building its technical foundation and does not offer salary compensation for this role at this stage. Meaningful equity participation will be considered based on the individual's level of involvement, technical contribution, leadership, and long-term commitment. Future compensation opportunities may be considered as the company secures funding and grows.
