Full job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Term Relief Women’s Counsellor

Principal Duties:

To carry out the responsibilities of a Women’s Counsellor in a shelter serving women and their children leaving intimate partner violence.

Basic duties include, but are not limited to: answering the 24-hr distress/crisis line; intake for women and children entering the shelter; both crisis and supportive counselling; safety planning; advocacy and referrals; and household duties that support residents during their stay at the shelter.

Qualifications:

● Undergraduate degree in Social Work, Community Studies, Psychology, and/or

equivalent combination of training and experience, with current First Aid, NVCI, and

CPR.

● Experience and knowledge of working with women and children who have experienced

various levels of violence and trauma, as well as the basic principles of crisis intervention

– de-escalation strategies.

● Proven track record of dependability and reliability in an employment setting

● Experience providing resources and support for individuals who use drugs and/or are in

the process of recovery from addiction.

● Experience delivering services and support to people who have experienced trauma and

are living with mental illness.

● Demonstrated capacity to manage conflict within the workplace with professionalism.

● Basic skills in the use of workplace IT products like Google Workspace. We use HIFIS for case management documentation and statistics. This can be learned, but required for our work.

Hours of Work:

Available on a continual basis throughout the year, called in as needed and to work on an hourly basis, day time, evenings, and overnights.

Position Type: Bargaining Unit (Bryony House is a unionized workplace)

Position Wage: As per the current collective agreement.
