Your Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Employment Specialist to join our team. The successful individual will provide subject matter expertise on employment compliance requirements, HR policies, and related business practices and projects. This role monitors and analyses employment legislation, supports compliance-driven projects and process improvements, and develops practical tools, guidance, and resources to promote consistent and compliant HR practices. Working under the direction of the Employment Compliance Manager, the position partners closely with HR Client Services, HR Services, other Talent Services teams, and key FST stakeholders to identify compliance risks, support implementation of employment-related initiatives, and provide timely, practical guidance aligned with applicable law and internal business standards.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyse employment legislation, regulatory developments, and HR compliance trends within assigned Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify compliance risks, process gaps, or inconsistent practices, and recommend practical solutions or escalation where appropriate.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and practical guidance to HR Client Services, HR Services, Talent Services, and other internal HR stakeholders on employment compliance requirements impacting policies, business practices, processes and related projects.
  • Lead or support employment compliance projects and initiatives driven by legislative change, business needs, risk assessments, or internal process improvements.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve compliance-related tools, resources, process documentation, templates, and guidance materials to support consistent HR practices.
  • Support the creation, review, and updating of employment policies and practices and related materials in partnership with appropriate stakeholders such as Risk Management, Talent Services, HR Client Services, Payroll, and business stakeholders.
  • Design, consult on, and deliver training, reference materials, and knowledge-sharing sessions for HR Services and HR Client Services.
  • Maintain awareness of HR best practices and recommend improvements that enhance compliance, operational efficiency, consistency, and employee experience.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • In-depth knowledge on employment legislation in Canada with experience researching legislation, reviewing facts and providing preliminary assessments.
  • Client-focused with the ability to build strong and productive business relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and work effectively in a constantly changing environment.
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow compliance laws and regulations.
  • Proactive, positive, and solutions focused.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in HR Management, Business, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Human Resources with a focus on employment compliance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • HR certification preferred, such as CHRP, CHRL, or equivalent certification applicable to the assigned jurisdiction.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.

Pay Range:

  • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$95,400.00 - $143,100.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
