Full job description

Position Summary:

Are you a community-minded professional who excels at bringing people together? Bonnyville & District FCSS is seeking an energetic, highly organized, and approachable FCSS Programmer to join their team.

Operating under the direction of the Community Services Director, you will participate in all aspects of preventative social-service program development—from initial concept and design to promotion, execution, and evaluation. This role is vital in nurturing a holistic community support system, offering everything from small-group classes to large-scale special events, while ensuring our services remain deeply responsive to the diverse demographics of the Town of Bonnyville.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, market, facilitate, and evaluate preventive, outcome-based social service programs that align with the Family and Community Support Services Act and Framework.
  • Act as an approachable point of contact for clients, navigating them through supported referrals and advocating for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and disadvantaged citizens.
  • Take initiative to seamlessly plan, organize, and execute special events, workshops, and conferences, including booking guest speakers and coordinating venues.
  • Deliver child and family programming aimed at building long-term community resiliency.
  • Provide ongoing training and support to volunteers, and offer mentorship to practicum or work-experience students. Work collaboratively with a close-knit team while confidently managing projects independently.
  • Assist the Director with data collection, budget management, funding proposals, and grant reporting requirements. Participate in Emergency Social Services (ESS) training.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma supplemented by post-secondary education in Human Services, Social Work, or a related field (a Community Social Services Diploma or equivalent is preferred). A combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • Strong familiarity with, or a proven ability to interpret and apply, the FCSS Act and Regulation.
  • Previous experience in a municipal setting is considered a strong asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Ability to clear and maintain a Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention/Welfare Clearance.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

The Ideal Candidate

  • You love engaging with people. You possess top-tier facilitation and public speaking skills, making you comfortable leading classes or addressing crowds.
  • You have high emotional intelligence, excellent customer service, and an innate ability to connect with clients of all ages and diverse backgrounds with tact and diplomacy.
  • You are a self-motivated individual who demonstrates great initiative when working alone with minimal supervision, yet you are deeply committed to being a reliable, cooperative team player.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Spreadsheets) and social media/design platforms like Canva to handle program marketing and administrative data collection.
