Position Description & Qualifications
- Perform emergency response activities, including EMR 2 response for medical emergencies.
- Ensure compliance with all Serco Canada Inc. policies and procedures, including but not limited to Code of Conduct and Ethics, Serco Management System, PDR’s, etc.
- Drive, operate, inspect, and perform first line maintenance on all emergency response equipment and apparatus.
- Recommend changes to work methods, procedures, and equipment to improve cost, time, effectiveness, and customer service.
- Participate/conduct firefighter training, life safety inspections, fire prevention, and education programs.
- Raise and monitor fire reports.
- Conduct follow up inspections.
- Assist in the inspection, testing and maintenance of Fire Suppression Systems and testing of Fire Alarm Detection Systems.
- Conduct building inspections.
- Perform maintenance and assist in inventory control of Unit Fire Extinguishers.
- Ensure all assigned deliverables and other reports are completed accurately and on time.
- Visibly demonstrate Serco Values and work practices while completing duties.
- Other related duties relevant to this position as may be required.
- Comply with all regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to the operations including occupational health and safety, environmental, drug and alcohol, and quality.
- Post- Secondary level education.
- Qualified to minimum of 5A level or Firefighter IAW NFPA 1001, 1002, 1003 and 472 are required.
- Qualified EMR 2, IAW Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Standards.
- Annual ARFF re-certification in accordance with STANAG 7145 Minimum Core Competency.
- Class 3 NL Driver’s license with 9 airbrake endorsement.
- Possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a Ramp Defensive Driving Course (DND/RDDC) certification to operate vehicles on the airfield is required.
- Ability to successfully pass a Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening test.
- Ability to successfully pass a Pre-employment Medical.
- Ability to successfully pass a Pre-employment Physical.
- Must remain fit for work, take, and pass annual Firefighter medical.
- Participate in the annual physical fitness test.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Level II security clearance is required.
- Ability to obtain driver’s abstract.
- Proficiency in extinguishing fires within their jurisdiction, operating fire trucks, and using water hoses or aerial ladders for rescues12.
- Emergency Medical Care to provide medical assistance to burn victims and stabilize injured individuals1.
- First Aid Knowledge: Expertise in first aid techniques, including CPR and victim stabilization, is essential.

- Firefighting: Responding to fires within their jurisdiction, operating fire trucks, and using water hoses or aerial ladders for rescues1.
- Emergency Medical Care: Many firefighters are trained as emergency medical technicians (EMTs) to provide medical assistance to burn victims and stabilize injured individuals1.
- First Aid Techniques: Expert knowledge of first aid techniques, including CPR and victim stabilization, is essential as firefighters are often the first to reach injured parties2.
- Technical Proficiencies: Skills such as breaking down doors, entering structurally unsafe buildings, and rescuing victims from crushed vehicles2.
- Interpersonal Competencies (Soft Skills): Developed through experience, these include teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication.
