Location: Monsignor McCoy High School
FTE: Monday to Friday, 3 hours per day (15 hours per week)
Position Summary:
The EMS Liaison supports the Monsignor McCoy First Responders Collegiate Program by providing mentorship, industry expertise, and coordination between the school, Emergency Health Services (EHS), and Medicine Hat College. The program prepares students for careers in emergency medical services by delivering introductory paramedicine training, dual credit post-secondary coursework, and experiential learning opportunities.
The successful candidate will help students develop the knowledge, skills, and professional expectations required for further education and careers in applied health sciences, with a focus on emergency medical response.
The Monsignor McCoy First Responders Collegiate Program is designed to provide students with introductory skills in emergency medical response through a partnership with Emergency Health Services and Medicine Hat College.
- Grade 10: Students explore careers in paramedicine through Career and Technology Studies (CTS) and Health Care Services (HCS) courses.
- Grades 11–12: Students complete up to three dual credit Medicine Hat College courses that contribute toward post-secondary programming in Applied Health Sciences.
- Students also participate in experiential learning opportunities, including volunteer placements at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, ride-along experiences, and other workplace learning activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist students in developing professional workplace expectations and preparing for post-secondary education and careers in emergency medical services.- Mentor students by providing career guidance and sharing practical knowledge of emergency medical response professions.
- Assist with the delivery and practical application of:
- Standard First Aid
- Emergency First Aid
- CPR and related emergency response skills
- Paramedic driver training utilizing driving simulators
Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience in Emergency Medical Services, paramedicine, emergency response, or a closely related healthcare profession.
- Current or previous registration as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), or equivalent is considered an asset.
- Retired or semi-retired emergency medical professionals are encouraged to apply.
- Experience working with youth, mentoring, coaching, or teaching is considered an asset.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, post-secondary partners, healthcare professionals, and community organizations.
- A commitment to fostering student success in both academic and workplace settings.
Successful candidates should demonstrate:
- Comprehensive understanding of emergency medical response practices and professional standards.
- Ability to support both high school and introductory post-secondary instruction.
- Knowledge of first aid instruction and emergency response procedures.
- Confidence in facilitating hands-on skills development and simulation-based learning.
- Ability to inspire students to pursue careers in emergency medical services and related health professions.
