Wood is recruiting a Rope Access Technician (Abseiler)- Offshore Adhoc (Casual /Temporary) to join its Operations team focusing on the oil and gas petrochemical industry. This opportunity is offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, working on an as needed, call-out basis.

The Role

  • Location: Offshore Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Site / Office based: Hibernia
  • Hours of work: 12 hours per day
  • Rotation / work pattern: Call out, as needed
  • Required: Site-specific medical, drug and alcohol testing
  • Unionized position: Rates follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement

You will be working in confined spaces and/or at heights, as well as noisy conditions. Work may be indoors or outdoors, and at extreme temperatures.

  • Work as a part of offshore rope access team, in the execution of activities requiring rope access
  • Ensure all equipment is in fit-for-purpose condition and quarantine any defective materials
  • Work as a part of a rope access team performing various construction, maintenance and repair tasks in an offshore environment
  • Must be conversant with all relevant legal standards, specifications, rules, regulations etc., including Permit to Work (PTW)
  • Report all accidents and near misses, however minor
  • Be aware of the implications of legislation or other good industry practices, relating to the tasks at which they are based
  • Keep all appropriate records and complete any necessary paperwork required
  • With the safety personnel, oversee the implementation of risk and safety assessments
  • Manage and implement all relevant QA / QC procedures within their field of operations
  • Show a personal example of good safety practice
  • Liaise with Client and site safety personnel
  • Attend and engage in ‘toolbox talks’ and all safety related meetings as required
  • Participate in accident / incident investigations, as required
  • Have a care for the environment and comply with statutory, Client and company environmental rules and regulations
  • Observe and comply with Company and Client Life Saving Rules
  • Always Use and maintain the proper safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with training, manufacturer’s instructions and company policy
  • Maintain active engagement and participation in Company and Client Safety program(s)

Skills And Qualifications

What makes you remarkable?

Expected:

  • IRATA rope access certification, Level I, II or III
  • The following certifications or training would be considered an asset; Industrial Rescue Course, Confined Space Entry (CSE) and inspection of Climbing and Rescue Equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of the IRATA Code of Practice, TACS and expectations of reporting as they relate to rope access activities and incidents
  • Knowledge of offshore processes and Permit to Work (PTW) systems

Training Requirements:

  • Basic Survival Training (BST) including HUET and HUEBA
  • Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) Alive
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS 2015)
  • Offshore Safety Regulatory Awareness
  • NL Fall Protection
  • NL Confined Space Entry
  • High Angle Rescue. Industrial Rescue from TRR website or Industrial rope rescue
  • IRATA Rope Access Certification
  • Rigging, Slinging & Banksman
  • Standard First Aid
  • Familiarity with using Windows-based applications as well as industry recognized Computerized
  • Maintenance Management Systems (e.g. SAP)

Physical Requirements

  • Must pass a site-specific drug and alcohol test, as required by the customer
  • Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50lbs
  • Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified above
  • Able to move and work in confined spaces, following proper protocol
  • Will be required consistently to work 12hour shifts performing physical labour in varying temperature extremes and conditions.
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds and steel framework, utilizing proper fall arrest procedures when required. Able to safely and comfortably work at heights without posing a danger to oneself or others
  • Able to meet physical requirements of frequent walking, climbing, standing, bending, twisting and crawling for the duration of the shift
