Vitran is looking for two new team members to join our team in our Montreal division: one as a Call Taker/Dispatcher – Day Shift and one as a Call Taker/Dispatcher – Night Shift.

SUMMARY: Call Taker/Dispatcher – Day Shift

Ensure the proper assignments of pickups and deliveries and coordinate efficient line haul departures between terminals. Will be a create thinker and problem solver and has to react to and affect change and create efficiencies and implement improved process for dispatch. Needs to have excellent time management skills, have excellent interpersonal, verbal and communication skills to be able to assign and direct work accordingly.

Main duties

Assign deliveries to driver routes – creating delivery manifests

  • Pickup calls following proper questioning process
  • Ensure and protect all deliveries and pickups for Toronto / Montreal / Ottawa priority accounts.
  • Driver check in – ensure drivers complete OS&D reports.
  • Drivers file maintenance. Including logs, preventative maintenance.
  • Assist with the Creation of running bills for regional, dock transfers and local deliveries.
  • Assist with the Issuing of nightly outbound dispatch.
  • Monitoring of aged freight / undelivered /missed delivery dates/ POD & BOL not imaged reports.
  • Arrival of all LH units in AS400/W3 web system – update all departed LH units
  • Work with the Yard Check to confirm available units for pick ups and confirm the Clarke trailers for their distribution list
  • Call for appointments – enter in AS400. Print report for night foreman and second copy for next day follow up. Proper appointment protocol to be followed.

  • To work and communicate in a professional and ethical manner with colleagues assisting where necessary to achieve standards required by company policy
  • To maintain standards of punctuality, dress code as appropriate to position and as required by branch and company policy
  • To be aware of and comply with company and house rules

Skill, knowledge and abilities required

  • Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel)
  • Must be extremely customer focused and have superior attention to detail.
  • Bilingualism a must.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced high stressed environment.
