PCB Layout Technician

Position Summary

The PCB Layout Technician is responsible for the design, development, and documentation of printed circuit boards (PCBs), test coupons, and related manufacturing data. The successful candidate will work closely with design engineers, test engineers, manufacturing personnel, and customers to create reliable, manufacturable PCB layouts that meet electrical, mechanical, and reliability requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and modify PCB layouts using industry-standard CAD tools.
  • Generate fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, Gerber files, drill files, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Design test coupons and reliability test structures in accordance with IPC and customer requirements.
  • Review customer data packages, including schematics, stack-ups, bills of materials, and mechanical drawings.
  • Verify layouts for compliance with design rules, manufacturability requirements, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve design and production issues.
  • Maintain revision control and documentation throughout the design process.
  • Support engineering investigations, root cause analyses, and product improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with panelization, tooling design, and production optimization activities.
  • Participate in design reviews and technical meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain PCB design standards, templates, and best practices.
  • Provide technical support related to PCB construction, interconnect structures, and manufacturing processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, PCB Design, or a related technical field.
  • 1+ years of PCB layout experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with PCB CAD software such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, Mentor Graphics/PADS, or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, stack-up drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of IPC standards, including IPC-2221, IPC-6012, IPC-A-600, and IPC-TM-650.
  • Experience designing high-density interconnect (HDI), microvia, rigid-flex, or high-reliability PCB products.
  • Experience creating test coupons for reliability testing and qualification programs.
  • Understanding of PCB manufacturing capabilities, process limitations, and DFM principles.
