Acuity Ophthalmology is seeking an enthusiastic, friendly, professional, and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our growing team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with patients, thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment, and is committed to providing exceptional patient care.

Acuity Ophthalmology prides itself on outstanding care for our patients and a dynamic team environment. We are a friendly and modern office with three ophthalmologists, providing cutting edge clinical medicine in the clinic and surgical procedures at Holy Cross Hospital.

As the first point of contact for our patients, the Medical Receptionist plays an critical role in creating a welcoming and efficient experience while supporting the daily operations of our ophthalmology clinic.

Position Details

  • Job Title: Medical Receptionist
  • Location: Calgary, AB
  • Job Type: Full-Time / Part-Time
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, daytime hours
  • Compensation: Competitive wage based on experience

Responsibilities

  • Greet and check in patients in a courteous and professional manner
  • Answer and direct incoming telephone calls
  • Schedule, confirm, and reschedule patient appointments
  • Register new patients and update patient information accurately
  • Verify referrals and ensure patient records are complete
  • Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, including faxes and emails
  • Collect and process payments when required
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with privacy regulations
  • Assist physicians and clinical staff with administrative tasks
  • Keep the reception area organized and welcoming
  • Perform other clerical duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Previous customer service experience required
  • Experience in an ophthalmology or specialty clinic is an asset
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment
  • Proficiency with computers, electronic medical records (EMR), and Microsoft Office
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
  • Professional, dependable, and team-oriented attitude

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience with appointment scheduling systems
  • Familiarity with Alberta Health billing processes is an asset
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
