Job Posting: Electrical Estimator

Company: TRU Electric LTD Location: Calgary, Alberta Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent Salary: $65,000 - $100,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

As an Electrical Estimator at TRU Electric, you will play a crucial role in our success by preparing accurate and competitive bids for a wide range of exciting projects. You will be at the forefront of our pre-construction process, helping to secure new business and drive our continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed analysis of prints, specifications, proposals, and other project documents to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.
  • Complete accurate material, labour, and equipment take-offs.
  • Utilize estimating software to prepare and finalize bid packages.
  • Source and negotiate pricing from suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with project managers, suppliers, and general contractors to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Prepare and present tender submissions, proposals, and change order pricing.
  • Maintain a database of historical cost data to improve estimating accuracy.
  • Assist in the project hand-off process to the operations team upon successful award of a contract.

Qualifications & Experience

EDUCATION AND SKILLS:

  • The ideal candidate will have a Journeyman Electrician certificate (Master Electrician designation preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in estimating.
  • Proficient use of computerized systems, project estimating tools and Microsoft Project and Excel skills are requirements.
  • Proven experience estimating projects in our core areas: Low rise condo, multi-family, residential (single-family/custom), and commercial (tenant improvement/base building).
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and local building codes.
  • Proficiency with electrical estimating software (e.g., Accubid, McCormick, or similar) and the MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent Strong organizational and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
