About the Role

The Junior Estimator is a self-motivated professional who wants to grow and thrive in the electrical & clean energy industry. This is a full-time position based out of our Edmonton office, offering a collaborative environment where you will work closely with our design, project management, and estimating teams.

Your primary objective is to support the creation of detailed bids for project scoping, permitting, and construction, ensuring every bid reflects our commitment to high-quality standards

Key Accountabilities:

1. Perform detailed quantity take-offs from architectural and electrical drawings (e.g., counting lighting fixtures, measuring conduit runs, and calculating cable lengths).

2. Assist in estimating costs for electrical & solar projects, including commercial/light industrial base buildings, tenant improvements, LED lighting upgrades, battery storage, and EV charging projects. Assist with take-offs, counts and organization of new opportunities.

3. Request, track, and evaluate pricing quotes from suppliers, wholesalers, and lighting agencies to ensure bid accuracy

4. Learn to cultivate relationships with key suppliers.

5. Assist in technical material estimation and perform cost comparisons to identify the most efficient and cost-effective solutions for projects.

6. Update customer-facing proposal documentation with proposed designs, inclusions, and exclusions for senior review.

7. Monitor bidding platforms (Merx, APC, Construction Connect, Compass, etc.) to seek out new opportunities, download tender documents, and track addendums.

8. Support the preliminary design of electrical systems under the guidance of senior staff.

9. Analyze project costing and learn to refine estimating practices.

10. Stay appraised of new incentive programs, technologies, products, and CEC code changes.

Secondary Accountabilities:

1. Be a Team Player: Maintain clear communication with your team (designers, PM’s, estimators and PC’s), create a positive working environment

2. Set up and maintain highly organized bid files, ensuring all drawing revisions, RFIs (Requests for Information), and addendums are meticulously recorded

3. Attend site visits and bidding opportunities alongside senior company representatives to take detailed notes, gather site conditions, and learn risk assessment.

4. Assist in pursuing multiple projects at a time while developing effective prioritization and time management skills.

Qualifications Required:

  • Journeyperson/Red Seal Electrician, Electrical Technologist Diploma, or previous Junior Estimator experience
  • 1-3 years of commercial electrical experience (field or office)
  • Basic understanding of design and sizing of electrical equipment per the CEC
  • Strong software skills, including Bluebeam Revu, OneDrive/Sharepoint, Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Class 5 driver’s license with clean record

Differentiators:

  • Solar installation methods, code rules, theory
  • Experience estimating in Accubid
  • Previous estimating experience at a commercial/light industrial contractor
  • Journeyperson Electrician an asset
