Employment Opportunity: Elementary Teachers Andrew Rural Academy

Andrew Rural Academy, a rural K-12 public charter school in Andrew, Alberta, is entering its second year of operation for the 2026–2027 school year. Following a successful inaugural year, we are seeking three (3) passionate General Education Elementary Teachers to join our growing team.

Position Details

Role: Elementary Teacher (Grades K–6)

Location: Andrew, Alberta

Start Date: September 2026

Application Deadline: August 24, 2026

Key Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • STEM Integration: A core requirement for this role is the ability to design and deliver STEM-based lessons that are fully aligned with the Alberta Program of Study. Candidates must demonstrate how they will embed science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts into daily literacy, numeracy, and social studies instruction using rural contexts.
  • Electives & Physical Education: While the primary focus is general education, ability to teach electives (e.g., Arts, Robotics, Agriculture, or Career Technology) is a significant asset. Experience teaching Physical Education is also highly desirable to support our holistic program.

Candidate Qualifications

We are seeking educators who demonstrate a strong commitment to professional growth and student success.

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Professional Standards: A deep understanding of teacher competencies and growth as outlined in the Teaching Quality Standard.
  • Curriculum Expertise: Specialized training in the Alberta curriculum, with a particular focus on the required subject matter.
  • Technology Integration: The ability to leverage technology to enhance and personalize learning experiences.
  • Inclusive Practice: Proven experience with diverse learners, including creating Individualized Education Plans (I.E.P.'s), implementing varied strategies in inclusive classrooms, and monitoring student impact.
  • Pedagogical Approach: A commitment to differentiated teaching and assessment through structured, inquiry-based practices while facilitating learning through trust, empathy, and mutual respect. Building a foundation where students feel valued, understood, and secure enough to take academic risks.
  • Learning Environment: The skill to develop and foster an engaging classroom atmosphere that challenges and inspires learners.
  • Research Mindset: An understanding of and interest in undertaking action research to improve educational outcomes.
  • Professional Disposition: The ability to contribute positively to our evolving school culture through flexibility, integrity, teamwork, and accountability.

Certification:

  • Candidates must hold a valid Alberta Permanent or Interim Professional Teaching Certificate OR meet the criteria for the new Expedited Teaching Certificates (applications open June 1, 2026):
  • Developmental Teacher Certificate: For final-year Bachelor of Education students.
  • Conditional Teacher Certificate: For internationally educated teachers.
  • Interim Specialized Teacher Certificate: For professionals with relevant degrees (e.g., STEM, Kinesiology) who complete required teacher preparation courses.

About Our School

Now in its second year, Andrew Rural Academy distinguishes itself by focusing on the rural interpretation and application of STEM.
