Full job description

Footholds Therapy Center is currently seeking energetic, team oriented, and motivated individuals for Education Assistant positions.

Footholds Therapy is a growing locally owned and family run therapy program that has been operating in Nanaimo for over six years. Our mission is to improve the lives of learners with special needs by providing high quality instruction and support.

You have:

  • Post secondary degree, diploma, or training in a related field or experience working with special needs learners
  • First aid certification (required)
  • A clear criminal record (required)
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Compassion, empathy, and patience
  • Flexibility and an ability to work in a variety of settings

You will be expected to:

Instructional and Classroom Supports

  • Deliver one-to-one and small-group instruction based on lesson plans designed by the Lead Educator.
  • Apply accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology as outlined within IEP’s
  • Reinforce literacy, numeracy, and content concepts through guided practice and informal assessment.
  • Coach students in organization, task initiation, and executive-function skills.
  • Supervise students during transitions, recess, lunch, field trips, and arrival/dismissal.

Behavior & Social-Emotional Support

  • Model and teach self-regulation, conflict resolution, and growth-mindset language.
  • Implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and restorative practices.
  • Document behavioral incidents and immediately communicate concerns to the Lead Educator.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Share student progress notes and observations to inform instructional adjustments.
  • Maintain professional, confidential communication with families as directed.

Professional Growth

  • Engage in reflective practice and incorporate feedback from the Lead Educator and Education Program Manager

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00-$23.00 per hour
