Growing Tykes Learning Centre is hiring Supply, Part-Time and Split shift Early Childhood Assistants (ECAs) to join our growing team. We are currently hiring for our Scarborough locations, with the opportunity to be added to the supply pool for our new childcare centre in East York, near Bayview Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East, once the new location is ready to open. The new centre is expected to open soon.

We are looking for caring, reliable, and dedicated individuals who are passionate about working with young children and supporting their learning and development. ECAs play an important role in supporting our classrooms and ensuring continuity of care when regular staff are away or additional classroom support is needed.

Successful candidates will begin employment with Growing Tykes Learning Centre and have opportunities to work at our existing Scarborough locations. They will also receive orientation and training to become familiar with our programs, policies, procedures, and expectations. Once the new East York centre is ready to open, successful candidates may also be added to the supply pool for that location. Opportunities for additional hours or full-time positions may become available in the future as our organization continues to grow.

Growing Tykes Learning Centre may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist with the screening of applications during the recruitment process.

Duties

• Assist RECEs in implementing developmentally appropriate, play-based activities that support children's learning and development.
• Help create a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
• Support children's daily routines, including meals, snacks, rest time, toileting, and diapering, as required.
• Supervise and engage with children during indoor and outdoor activities, transitions, and daily routines.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
• Support children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
• Follow all health, safety, sanitation, and supervision procedures.
• Support children with diverse learning needs and follow individualized strategies as directed.
• Assist with classroom setup, activity preparation, and tidying learning materials.
• Follow the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), Ministry of Education regulations, and centre policies and procedures.
• Complete assigned documentation and records using computer-based systems, as required.
• Work collaboratively with RECEs, supervisors, and other team members.
• Be flexible and willing to work in different classrooms and age groups as needed.
• Participate in orientation, training, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications & Experience

• ECA certificate from a recognized institution is an asset.
• Previous experience working in a licensed child care centre is an asset.
• Experience working with children from infancy to school age is an asset.
• Knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and How Does Learning Happen? is an asset.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
• A caring, patient, dependable, and positive attitude.
• Ability to work collaboratively with RECEs and follow direction from supervisors.
• Comfortable working in different classrooms and adapting to the needs of each program.
• Comfortable using computers for documentation and communication, as required.
• Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset.
• A valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certificate is required.
• Successful candidates must obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) for Growing Tykes Learning Centre at their own expense.
• A satisfactory medical assessment/form, including required immunization records, must be provided prior to employment.
